Brian Hagedorn declares victory in tight Wisconsin Supreme Court race

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

MADISON - Appeals Judge Brian Hagedorn held a narrow lead early Wednesday in the race for Wisconsin Supreme Court, according to unofficial tallies that were so close both sides were bracing for a recount.

In an early morning tweet and statement to supporters, Hagedorn claimed victory.

"The people of Wisconsin have spoken and our margin of victory is insurmountable," the statement read.

But the margin was so narrow that the Associated Press had not yet called the race as of 5 a.m. Wednesday.

We always have weird elections that always swing to the Republicans since the Koch bros. decided to buy our State.

The Green Bay Mayor's race went Democratic by a large number in a conservative area. So are we to believe those same people voted for a man tied to alt-right hate groups?

He has known ties to White Supremacist hate groups, and he's a Walker crony. Walker just got thrown out. I absolutely don't believe these results.

I hope, for the first time ever, that Evers demands a legitimate recount instead of reusing machines that are never checked.

Hagedorn played the God card and the Christians (who I consider a hate group collectively) came out in force.

Nice as it would be, Democrats aren't going to win 100 percent of close elections. Sometimes the Republican just gets more votes.

Win Some - Lose Some

Wisconsin has historically been a close election state at all levels,

Gore beat Bush in 2000 by 5,708 votes - DEM WIN
Kerry beat Bush in 2004 by 11,384 votes -DEM WIN

Trump beat Clinton in 2016 by 22,738 votes - REPUBLITHUG WIN

And Supreme Court races have been similar

2011 Prosser beat Klopenburg by 7,004 votes - REPUBLITHUG WIN

and now, yesterday Hagedorn is the apparent winner by 5,962 votes - REPUBLITHUG WIN

DEM WON Supreme Court seat last year by huge margin in a 4% lower turnout race.

REPEATED LESSON LEARNED FOR DEMOCRATS IN EVERY ELECTION - YOU DON'T WIN IF YOU DON'T TURN OUT YOUR VOTERS.

Milwaukee County way underperformed with less total votes than Dane County, although Milwaukee County is 77% larger in population.

Actually, same could be said for Dane County which although turning out 151,000 voters to the polls (and more than the 150,000 total voters in Milwaukee County) was 140,000 fewer voters showing up than six months ago for the governors race - 290,000 vs. 151,000. It would not have been difficult to close the gap in either county with an effective GOTV effort, but Democratic voters seem to lack the motivation to get out and vote each and every time as if their lives depend on it - which they do.

The GOP voters tend to show up in numbers each and every time - and quick analysis by political pundits in the state showed Hagedorn cemented his win by turning out voters in North Central and East Northeast areas of the state.

Lastly, many schools just returned from their Spring break vacations, and most families decided they couldn't be bothered to show up and vote. It's why in motivated counties (Dane) most school issues passed, and in not so much motivated areas many school issues went down to resounding defeat. Oh, yes and GOP counties as well.

Were a lot of Democrats voters suppressed before the election, while Walker was still in office? Or mail in & provisional votes totals incorrect I just don't buy how such an important election for Wisconsin Democrats gets such low turnout in one of their two reliable strongholds in Wisconsin.
