Kellyanne Conway defends Trump after he attacks her husband

Kellyanne Conway on Wednesday defended President Donald Trump’s attacks on her husband George Conway saying he’s “a counterpuncher” and asserting that the president is free to respond when he’s accused of having a mental illness.

“He left it alone for months out of respect for me,” Conway, a senior Trump aide, told POLITICO in a brief telephone interview. “But you think he shouldn’t respond when somebody, a non-medical professional accuses him of having a mental disorder? You think he should just take that sitting down?”

“Don't play psychiatrist any more than George should be,” she added. “You're not a psychiatrist and he's not, respectfully.”

Conway’s defense of her boss comes as Trump has spent the past two days ripping her husband on Twitter. While the president has generally restrained from attacking George Conway, a longtime conservative lawyer who has repeatedly mocked Trump on Twitter, he broke from that habit on Monday after George Conway claimed he suffered from mental illness.

We're legally separated until September because of an insurance issue. (In Colorado a legal separation is, for almost all intents and purposes, the same as a divorce. )

The thing is, I told him years ago that I could never be married to a Repuke, or be in any kind of relationship with one. At the time he had been a Democrat for his entire adult life. He started wavering during the Obama era, and then it got worse. I really thought he'd come around in his way of thinking. I gave him more time and more chances than I should have, but like all the other MAGAts, he just got more stupid.

I dated a Rethug who was active in his party and who'd once run for political office. About two years into our relationship, with my forcing him to research both sides of the issues, he switched to Independent. This past year, after voting Democrat since 2008, he switch over to Democrat and assisted in a local campaign for a Dem rep who won the seat. We parted ways long ago for other reasons, but to me he is the proof that something as fundamental as presenting both sides of an issue can work miracles.
