Judge: Jail time for man who attacked McDonald's worker

Source: Associated Press

Updated 8:18 am CST, Friday, March 8, 2019

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — A Florida man who grabbed a McDonald's worker by the collar because he couldn't find a straw was sentenced to 60 days in jail.

A Pinellas County judge also ordered 40-year-old Daniel Willis Taylor to stay away from the restaurant and the workers he attacked in an incident caught on video. Taylor was credited with the 58 days in jail he already served. He also must pay a $1,000 fine.

Authorities say Taylor became irate when he couldn't find a straw on New Years' Eve. The video shows him standing at the counter, screaming at 20-year-old Yasmine James before grabbing and holding onto her shirt collar. She responded by hitting him several times.

The Tampa Bay Times reports Taylor kicked another worker while being escorted out.

"Florida Man" is a thing because Florida has the most open public records laws in the US, including arrest records.

When I was stationed in Fort Lewis there was a list of places we were not allowed to go to. There were a few payday lenders because of the interest rates. Cafe Arizona I guess because someone from the Army was killed at the nightclub. Also a massage parlor which was rumored to be a place for prostitution.

Those places thrive near military bases. Young service men are prey. Overseas ports took it to a new level. The pre-shore leave videos of VD cankores and robbery worked on me, too terrified to go looking. Those navy videos should be preschool requirement.

Thanx for the follow up. Now the McDonalds worker has a bedrock foundation for a civil suit.

Mr Douchebag may not have much to sue for, but it'd probably be nice to drive to that McJob in a new car.

I don't care what happened. It's unimaginable for a normal person to attack a restaurant worker like that. If he doesn't get help w/his anger, he may end up killing someone.

his buggy eyes bulged even more.

She would have been an easy victim as such a diminutive wee one, if she hadn't been such a courageous person who wasn't going to take it.

He wouldn't have an easy time with someone large, for sure.

Absolutely love her spirit. Wow. Throughout she was very prepared to defend herself, and that focus and preparedness are downright inspiring to me. Hope she is not put in a place to have to do that again, once is too many times.

After the shock has dissipated she's bound to feel very shaken, I hope she will sail right through it.

Looks as if he's very familiar with filthy behavior toward people, he did that so easily. He SHOULD be in prison.

Hoping this guy will reap his vicious rewards many times over.

the fact that Taylor was allowed to remain in the building even after the incident. “I didn’t know if he was going to attack me again.”

“I am not only physically hurt, but I am emotionally hurt that I was left to defend myself even as I was surrounded by my co-workers and other bystanders,” she added in a news release. “I am so grateful for the outpouring of support I have received from all around the country.”

Learning the company in Florida is taking steps to make single-use things like straws available on request only, which should be practiced everywhere, was enlightening.

The thought he was so helpless without his automatic straw that he flew into a rage is real food for thought. What a hateful "man."
