Light showers would be odd. Not enough information yet to even guess; I am most curious. Tragic.

They were losing altitude pretty quickly and there was a turn off of their flight northwest to due west, pointing them right at RWJ Airpark in Baytown, TX. Could it be they realized they wouldn't make it to Houston Intl and aimed for the nearest runway that was close to long enough? 767-300s need ~6000ft for takeoff and RWJ has a ~5000ft east-west strip right in line with their altered flight path before contact was lost.

BREAKING: Amazon Prime Air cargo plane crashes with 3 passengers aboard in Southeast Texas
By Chaffin Mitchell, AccuWeather staff writer

A cargo jetliner operating for Amazon Prime Air crashed with three passengers while approaching Houston, Texas, on Saturday. The status of the three people on board was not immediately available on Saturday, officials said in a press release.

The Boeing 767 crashed about 30 miles southeast of Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Chambers County, Texas, at about 12:45 p.m. local time, according to The Daily Beast.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated, but AccuWeather meteorologists suggest weather could be to blame.

"There were a few showers with gusty winds in the vicinity of Houston at the time of the crash. While an investigation needs to take place, these were around the area and could have been a factor in the crash," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alan Reppert said.
