Democratic Michigan Congressman Dan Kildee all but called Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell a sniveling coward who was afraid to do his job, after the Kentucky Republican refused to call a vote on funding the government until he got permission from President Donald Trump.
I hope the Senate acts fast before the president changes his mind again. He seems to change his mind on an hourly basis, said Kildee, after the news broke that Trump would sign the bill, but would declare a national emergency, a move backed by McConnell.
I do think its an abdication of Leader McConnells responsibilities that he has to wait for permission from the president of the United States for him to do the job that he was elected to do, Kildee continued. Thats disappointing. But he added that we wont need the presidents signature because enough members of both Congress and the Senate supported the bill to override any threatened veto.
The fact that the presidents going to make an emergency declaration? Many of us have serious questions about whether or not he has that authority, he went on. It may be that leader McConnell felt that its something that he had to give the president in order to get permission for him to take this vote to the floor. Thats a really disappointing commentary.

(29,381 posts)It really should show normal folks that they are traitors to what our founding fathers fought and died for. I hope everyone of them that support his actions become text book examples of what an attempted coup and treason look like in every history text book.

(16,750 posts)GOP loyalist Barr confirmation after GOP loyalist/ activist Whittaker holding down the job since Sessions "stepped down", National Emergency declaration for what is not an emergency, police escorts for voting senators restraining press. I wonder how this parallels Germany, Italy, Russia, etc. I read a year or so ago that Drumph had a copy of Hitler's speeches for nighty-night reading. Has that been validated? The Klan rally his dad was arrested at in NYC in the 1920's, has been validated by the Washington Post. At this point, we are dealing with a full on, possibly quite demented sociopath, dictator-aspiring, morally bankrupt "president." And remember Manafort personally picked Mike Pence as Vice. Drumph poses a clear and present danger to the republic and our democracy. His Bavarian grandfather would be shaking. Buckle up.

Manafort proved his taste is up his ass. But I STILL think trump took one look at Pence and decided here was the whitest white guy he'd ever seen, so that'd be a nice gift to offer his racist "base."

(1,000 posts)I really really do. All of the focus has been on Dump, but we really need to start looking at how illegal some of the Senate and GOP political arms are a part of the conspiracy with Putin to steal the 2016 election. I am not satisfied that we can just let this go.
