UPDATE: Trump intends to sign border deal to avoid another shutdown
Source: CNN
Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump intends to sign the border security deal to avoid another partial government shutdown, according to two sources who have spoke directly with the President.Trump said Tuesday that he was "not happy" with the tentative deal reached by congressional negotiators late Monday night that falls far short of his original demands.
Congress faces a deadline to get a deal passed and signed by Trump before Friday. The agreement, which includes $1.375 billion for a border barrier, falls well short of the $5.7 billion Trump originally demanded for a wall. It even falls short of the $1.6 billion included in a Senate package last year.
Still, the measure would avert another government shutdown, which looms on Friday if a deal isn't reached. Polls showed Trump was largely blamed for the previous 35-day impasse.
Even as lawmakers haggled over details of their agreement, the White House had been planning behind the scenes to secure the funds for the wall unilaterally. The White House says Trump is continuing to weigh his options, which still include taking executive action to secure funding for a wall. It's not clear which combination of actions the President might use, and the topic has been under debate for weeks.

(26,318 posts)for simply agreeing to protect the Dreamers to demanding 5 billion for a wall in mid to late 2018 and taking hostages and shutting down the government to agreeing not to shut it down again for 1.6 billion but not for a wall? Why do I get the feeling that the Art of a Deal is a work of fiction?

(129,376 posts)I saw various sources publishing stats right after the latest shutdown was over, that indicated that it most likely cost the federal government over $5 billion as a result of the shutdown due to the time it would take to bring the government back up and functioning again... plus all the late fees and interest payments that the government would have to dole out for any obligations (contracts due any payment for goods/services, facility lease and utility payments, vehicle lease and/or storage/parking payments, etc) that could not be fulfilled. The "Prompt Payment Act" requires that the government pay a vendor interest for any past due amounts.

(14,732 posts)be a vote again for a government shutdown. In any case he has already figured out a way to (Mulvaney let it slip yesterday) administratively shuffle monies already appropriated around (under Executive authority) to put towards construction of his wall. This doesn't involve declaring a national emergency and I'm not at all sure that Congress can block it, even if they want to so he comes out a 'winner' to his mouth-breathing base. That's what it was all about, anyway.
