WASHINGTON (AP) President Donald Trump will sign an executive order Thursday pushing those who receive federal funds to buy American. The aim is to boost U.S. manufacturing.
Peter Navarro, director of the White House National Trade Council, told reporters during a telephone briefing the policies are helping workers who are blue collar, Trump people. Later he amended that, saying every American is a Trump person because Trumps economic policies affect everyone.
Navarro said the order would affect federal financial assistance, which includes everything from loans and grants to insurance and interest subsidies.
He says some 30 federal agencies award over $700 billion in such aid each year. Recipients working on projects like bridges and sewer systems will be encouraged to use American products.

(12,660 posts)Or "Buy American" after we've gutted that domestic manufacturing base and the only providers or supply chain is located in some impoverished "developing" country that is being exploited by international corporate interests.
Or "Buy American" meaning equipment that consists of "unfinished" components can be purchased from a small business (up to 50 employee) pass-through assembler or fabrication LLC based in the U.S. whose sole purpose is to put the pieces together, test, and slap a "Made in the U.S." label on a product that was otherwise completely manufactured in a unregulated cheap labor country.

(81,515 posts)Navarro told reporters at one point that Trumps policies were boosting manufacturing and helping workers who are blue collar, Trump people.
Pressed on whether the administration was tailoring its economic policies to benefit those it believes are supportive of the president, Navarro appeared to walk back his comments.
My view of Trump people is that every American is a Trump person, he said, arguing that a good economy impacts everyone.
