Lawmakers Close In on Shutdown Deal and Brace for Trump to Blow It Up: Sources

Source: The Daily Beast

Lawmakers have made notable progress on a deal to end the federal government shutdown five weeks after it first started, several Capitol Hill sources told The Daily Beast on Friday morning.

The deal, like all those that require President Trump’s sign-off, is subject to revision and remains at the mercy of the president’s political whims. But the sources said that the talks, which began in earnest Thursday afternoon, had moved along further than any before and that news of terminals closing at LaGuardia Airport because of a reported shortage of air traffic controllers had put “gasoline on the fire.”

Under the proposed resolution, the government would be reopened with funding set at current levels. Lawmakers are still negotiating how long that funding should last, with Democrats pushing for as long a deal as possible so as to not end up back at the current situation within a matter of weeks.

There will be no funding included in the deal for Trump’s proposed wall along the southern border. Nor will the deal include a “down-payment” as the president requested on Thursday.

If the Senate can't get 60 votes for cloture then the GOP there are to blame. If it does manage to pass the Senate (the House would be a given), then let the vetoes fall where they may but at least let the PROCESS go forward to put the blame squarely where it belongs.

No wall, no massive buy of (probably, defective) Derispaska Russian steel. Also FBI wouldn't continue losing agents and prosecutions of his family, his businesses and himself would continue. Other than re-election, there is nothing in it personally for him so he will probably not sign. If he does take his re-election seriously, he will sign, then issue an Emergency Order to build the wall. He knows it still won't get built, but at least he will look more serious to his idiotic base and his Russian masters. Don't know if the Russian masters will go for this though, they are much smarter than his base.

Pass a bipartisan bill with veto proof margins and Dipshit's tantrum don't matter. Make him irrelevant and push his agenda aside. Show the Russians we can't be forced to buy Russian steel from Evraz.

Why not two months? Three? Four? Members of Congress have to see that things will continue to get worse without limit and that they have to reach an agreement without Trump, if for no other reason than to save their own skins -- and I'm not talking about avoiding defeat in the 2020 elections.

all the way till their next election. Seriously. If/when Senate Republicans give in to Russian compromat, they need to be named have mug shots selected (preferably their lowest photo moment) and stalked like the traitors they are. Because the shut down only benefits Trump/Russia in that it weakens the United States and delays the Congressional hearings.

I volunteer to assemble the items needed.
