Trump says grocery stores will 'work along' with federal workers to give them free groceries during

Source: Raw Story

President Donald Trump on Thursday suggested that grocery stores are extending credit to federal employees facing economic crisis due to his shutdown.

In statements from the White House that will keep fact-checkers busy, Trump defended comments by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.

Trump said that banks are “working along” with federal workers who are unable to meet mortgage payments.

“That’s what happens at a time like this, they know the people, they’ve been working with them for years, and they work along. The grocery stores work along,” Trump claimed.

In August, Trump bizarrely claimed that people need government issued IDs to purchase groceries.

I just returned from taking my neighbor, furloughed from ATC, some navy bean soup w/ ham and a huge ham bone for her pupperstuff. We're all chipping in to keep a good neighbor and the precious pup (all 120 pounds) in food.

So of Orange McBonespurs can find a place giving groceries out for free, I PROMISE it's not Fred Meyer, Safeway or WalMart.

That SNAP is going to get cut off if the shut down lasts much longer. 18% of all SNAP benefits are redeemed at Walmart and Walmart makes 56% of its sales from food. Of course, Walmart employees qualify for millions in SNAP benefits every year. Talk about welfare queens. Walmart is the biggest of them all.

[link:https://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/the-administration/320122-steve-mnuchin-foreclosure-king-now-runs-your-us|

In 2008, Mnuchin made a deal with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). He and his investment group bought a predatory lender named Indy Mac, renaming it "OneWest." They then started foreclosing on homeowners.

While doing that, he "harvested fees for appraisals and inspections and late payments, and got protected by a federal backstop. The FDIC lost $13 billion on Indy Mac; Mnuchin and company made $3 billion in profits."
To make this tidy sum for himself, Mnuchin used something called "servicer-driven defaults." This practice entailed "telling homeowners they must miss payments to get help, and when they do, [the banks] move to foreclose."

The other devious ploy is something called "dual tracking." This is "where servicers negotiate modifications and pursue foreclosures at the same time."

If that were not enough, Dayen cites "a decided racial component. 68 percent of OneWest 36,000 plus foreclosures in California were in non-white areas." In addition, "OneWest was a market leader in foreclosing on the elderly: its subsidiary Financial Freedom carried out a disproportionate number of reverse mortgage foreclosures, which target seniors to suck out their home equity."

criminally advising home owners struggling to keep their homes in order to obtain 'help', to first default, or to take on ill advised reverse mortgages, costing many of our elderly their homes.

Wilbur Ross of course has ripped off his partners big time.

is for some Republican supporters, who have funded the party in the past and intended to do so at the next election, to develop a conscience, and decide the line in the sand regarding inhuman treatment has been well and truly stepped over by Trump.

Then redirect their funding for the party to relief efforts for the working but cash strapped federal workers.

A simple credit note to major chains and lots of small grocery stores allowing federal workers to access essential groceries, would do it.

I can but dream.

Won't be too long before people in other countries will have to start sending food parcels to their US relatives.

But since you don't have any money to pay the bill when due it will cost you interest that you can't pay because you don't have any money. The stores around here are lucky because this is a Marine city, Jacksonville NC, and they are getting paid. The towns with the Coast Guard aren't so lucky since they are not getting paid.
