Hawaii's Gabbard formally launches campaign for president
Source: Associated Press
U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a Democrat known for bucking the party establishment and for criticizing U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, formally launched her campaign for president with a video posted online Thursday.
Gabbard joins a growing field of Democrats seeking their party's nomination. U.S. Housing Secretary Julian Castro recently announced a bid, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Sen. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Sen. Kamala Harris of California say they are running.
"We have people in positions of power who are not thinking about the well-being of the people and our planet," Gabbard said in the video . "Where is that conversation about the needs of our people?"
Gabbard, 37, has represented Honolulu's suburbs and rural Hawaii in the U.S. House since 2013. She is a combat veteran who served in Iraq and Kuwait with the Hawaii National Guard.

Formal announcement by Rep. Gabbard, it's now official. Looking forward to primary season, many great candidates are available to destroy Trump in 2020.

(1,607 posts)The say you have to have a little bit of 'healthy delusion' to go into a career in the arts ... not sure how healthy Tulsi's delusion is though.

(2,728 posts)The primaries will determine very quickly if she is "delusional" as you assert. More candidates for consideration does no harm in my opinion.

(1,607 posts)I won't vote for her in the primaries, but of course she certainly has the right to run.
Best of luck to her -- I believe she's going to need that plus a whole lot more to even finish top 5.

(520 posts)Maybe her thinking is that since Obama was from Hawaii she has a chance? I suspect she's angling for a VP nod.

The "rent is too damn high" guy has a better chance than she does.

(1,607 posts)Tulsi would fit the Colmes role pretty well. And she knows all the PAs and makeup folks at Fox too... wouldn't be a steep climb for her, she'd get a ton of attention, and probably pays well.
calguy
(5,326 posts)She's a democrat who acts like a republican, and she's a very good looking woman so the FoxHeads would accept her in a minute.

(1,607 posts)The chance to take shots at "fellow" Dems on a nightly basis, perfect her 'both sides do it" mantra, maybe get in a few belated jabs at Obama for good measure ... all while being very well compensated and drooled over by Fox Nation's league of dullards ... I don't see the downside for her.
Take that Senator Hirono.

(8,733 posts)No. She actively supported conversion therapy, worked against marriage equality and worked for a state constitutional amendment against marriage in Hawaii.
She was ignorant of gay rights, she actually worked against them.
