Maybe not of earthshaking importance, but behind the wheel at 97?
What if it had been a motorcycle on the road when he pulled out of the driveway?
Also, a lot of head injuries aren't apparent at first. Hours later, though, they show up.

(129,131 posts)At first I blinked at the headline because I figured that he was "being driven". But nooooooo.... And a Range Rover ain't no small car either.

Possibly the biggest threat to Obama's life there's been ...

(514 posts)It's good your father knew when to quit, but I'm glad he was able to make the decision for himself rather than having to deal with ageist prejudice. People age at different rates. It would be better if older people had to pass a yearly driver's test, rather than just saying "if you're over ___ you have to turn in your keys." How many younger people with quick reflexes use them to fiddle with their phones rather than keeping their eyes on the road? There has to be some way to determine who drives that's based on the individual.

(6,593 posts)Seriously though - he's 97 years old and is still behind the wheel?
I hope the Crown will hire a driver for him AND Her Majesty - ASAP.

(9,894 posts)he drives himself at any age. I had no idea they did their own driving. Anyway, why are we blaming him when we have no idea whose fault it was?
If I had to guess I would bet it wasn't his fault.

(504 posts)He had a black taxi that he used to drive in London, which led to some interesting reactions when people attempted to flag him down.
He also drove President Obama around the estate on his visit.
More famously, perhaps, is when the Queen drove King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia around, much to his surprise. I like to think she was making a subtle political point at the time.
