Winter Storm Harper a Major Snowstorm Friday Into the Weekend From the Midwest to Northeast
Source: The Weather Channel
Winter Storm Harper will become a major snowstorm from the Plains to the Midwest and Northeast Friday into the weekend, piling more snow on some areas affected by last weekend's Winter Storm Gia but also hammering areas of the Northeast that haven't seen much snow recently.
Arctic cold will return to the nation's northern tier starting late this week, just one ingredient fueling this snowstorm.
A storm system entering the West Coast Wednesday will tap into that cold air once it moves through the central and eastern states Friday through the weekend, delivering a widespread swath of significant snow.
The exact track of Winter Storm Harper Friday through the weekend is still somewhat uncertain as it pivots through the central and eastern states. Therefore, it's still a bit too early to pinpoint any further details such as snow totals and potential locations affected.

I don't think we've even had 4", total, so far.

(26,269 posts)That fizzled out. Nothing but dustings, since. This is the least snowy Winter I ever remember, but we've had several record breakers, both for cold and snow depth, in the past couple of years, so we might be due a break.

(804 posts)My son is driving from Columbus to Chicago to see me tomorrow and staying until Sunday. My nerves are going to be shot if he's driving back the whole way in a snowstorm.
I drove out to see him last January in blowing snow conditions and discovered that Indiana seems to make NO effort to make the roads safe. A 6 hour drive took 2 DAYS because we had to find a place to stay for the night or risk having a serious accident.

Never ever heard of such a thing before, have you?
My daughter lives in Central Illinois, where the last storm dropped 8" of snow. The next one could drop a lot more.
