Reeling California Republicans elevate social conservative
Source: Politico
California Republicans, battered by deep losses in the 2018 elections, have shaken up their leadership by elevating a social conservative to lead the state Senate caucus.
State senators voted to replace Sen. Patricia Bates with Sen. Shannon Grove on Tuesday, the latest leadership shuffle as the state party searches for a way out of political oblivion. Grove highlighted Californias highest-in-the-nation poverty rate in a statement heralding the change.

While some California Republicans have advocated a socially moderate, fiscally conservative platform as a way to appeal to more voters, Grove has embraced an agenda that includes opposing abortion rights despite Californias general embrace of them.
In 2015, Grove courted controversy after she was quoted suggesting that a withering drought was Gods punishment for abortion. Grove denied that account but said in response that Gods hand is in the affairs of man.

(12,660 posts)But they just can't help shooting themselves in the foot by ensuring the majority of their "leadership policy" is focused on issues that are only appealing to the Evilangelicals, could they?
Housing?
Living Wages?
Environment?
Naaa - let's promote a leadership that promotes the End Times, goes after Abortions and ensuring that Christianist Proselytizers won't ever have to worry about the feelings or well-being of Non-believers.
That'll bring most of the old school republicans back to the fold.

(767 posts)I live in rural California and I know the desert and mountain areas are lousy with "R" people. Tax money from rich areas flood into the poor areas to provide good roads and nice schools. I know those people "bite" the hand that feeds them and they are "brain" dead. Slowly but surely us democrats are moving into the rural areas and soon we will be the majority. I know why the middle of country votes RED. It is because of "inbreeding" and stupid people. The smart ones move and become democrats......
