GOP senator says Trump declaration of national emergency wouldn't get wall built

Source: CNN

Washington (CNN)A Republican senator warned on Sunday that if President Donald Trump declares a national emergency on the southern border in order to fund the construction of a border wall, the move is "going to go to court and the wall won't get built."

"I would hate to see it. Using that act, it would be -- in this instance, it would be a far larger act than has ever occurred in the past, so I'd prefer not. Primarily because if we do that, it's going to go to court and the wall won't get built," Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union."

Instead, Johnson said, Trump and congressional Republicans should "keep pressure on Democrats to actually come to the negotiating table in good faith and fund what they've supported in the past."

Congressional Democrats are engaged in a more than three-week battle with Senate Republicans and the White House over funding for a wall along the southern border. Trump has been mulling the use of a national emergency to fund the project, saying last week that he was nearing a decision on the matter and that he would take the step -- which would likely be subject to an immediate legal challenge -- if talks with Democrats continue to go nowhere.

Is different from a physical Border Wall.

But then, Ron Johnson is doing a Trump and combining the two as one issue and not 2 separate entities. Democrats are NOT that stupid. But Republicans seem to be.

If it wins, then every Eminent Domain claim against every parcel will go to court.

It won't get built during Trump's presidency, or Pence's presidency after Trump is gone. It would probably not get built during the eight years of Biden's presidency 2021-2029, assuming he kept the effort going.

I didn't quite make that out. Speak the fuck up. You don't get to slide that shit under the door like a late assignment. What have the Dems agreed to in the past?

referring to Jan 2018, when the Dems made a deal, with trump that they would agree to a wall in exchange for a DACA fix. Republicans agreed, then trump said no, after saying yes.

Take what Democrats have offered in exchange for a compromise, reject the other half of the bargain, then claim Democrats "agreed" to the deal in exchange for nothing.

Funny how they conveniently forget that the budget was all done and approved by both houses last year. Then hannity changed trump's mind for him and, now, here we are. The sole person stopping this is mcconnell. He says he won't even allow any bill to be brought to the floor without advance approval from trump (like he did with last year's bill which passed with bi-partisan support.) The reason mcconnell won't now, of course, is because he knows it will pass with enough votes to override a veto.

Says the terrorist hostage-takers' henchman.

The mission of HUD or USDA or DOE or EPA or FEMA, etc., have NOTHING to do with "immigration" or "border security". By refusing to fund agencies whose appropriations will never have any relationship to anything to do with this subject, you are a terrorist holding hostages and attempting to extort money.
