Trump misleads about military pay raieses again

Source: CNN

President Donald Trump incorrectly told troops in Iraq on Wednesday that he gave them their first pay raise in more than 10 years -- a falsehood he has repeatedly told.

Speaking to troops at Al Asad Air Base during his surprise visit to Iraq, Trump told troops: "You protect us. We are always going to protect you. And you just saw that, 'cause you just got one of the biggest pay raises you've ever received. ... You haven't gotten one in more than 10 years. More than 10 years. And we got you a big one. I got you a big one. I got you a big one."

In fact, military pay has increased every year for more than three decades. It was raised 2.4% in 2018 and then 2.6% in the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act. The 2.6% pay raise is the largest in the past 9 years.

"They had plenty of people that came up, they said, 'You know, we could make it smaller. We could make it 3%, we could make it 2%, we could make it 4%,'" Trump told the troops about the latest pay raise. "I said, 'No. Make it 10%. Make it more than 10%.'"

The headline says "misleads". Then the first sentence says falsehood.

They're doing every dance step in the world to avoid saying "lied".

or that the last one wasn’t 10%? Does he think they don’t look at their paychecks or file tax returns?

11. For him to flat-out lie in the faces of military personnel (who deserve much better than him)...

The possibilities are:
He doesn't know better, can't summon the curiosity to get his facts straight, and doesn't grasp that the POTUS should be as well informed as anyone in the world. He thinks it's okay to spew out anything anyway.
Or,
He knows he's deliberately lying for political advantage and doesn't care. In other words, he is a disturbed and deranged individual.

Trying to find an explanation, ANY explanation just so I can sleep at night (it’s 4:08 am, so my plan isn’t working so well) and the only thing I can come up with is.... Is it possible that after all of his four years, they will have received a 10% increase. He’s NOT a good businessman. They may have told him this and he’s weak-minded enough to believe that they actually are getting a 40% increase over 4 years, which nobody would believe but someone who lives outside the realm of reality (so, him). I just know that when I was teaching, we once got a contract that said 6% and the townsfolk was up in arms. It was a 5 year contract. They assumed 6% every year for 5 years (thus, a 30% increase, compounded), when in actuality, it was about 1.3% per year (with an increase of 8% for medical benefits, which WAS compounded, bringing me back to my salary 15 years prior-thanks Republican Governor Christie-and still people yelled at me in grocery store lines for causing the state to go broke because Reps know how to work the spin).
So either, he’s a liar and an idiot, thinking he could pull this off, which I don’t doubt, or he’s a feeble minded fool who doesn’t understand contracts. Also possible.

He bullshits. He's just saying bullshit. There's no logic to it. His compulsion is to speak in superlatives, and it's always something that he's at the center of. I think he doesn't even know what he's saying at the time he's saying it. He's riffing, and it makes him feel good, and that's the only thing that matters.
