A poacher has been ordered to watch the Disney classic Bambi as part of his sentence for illegally killing hundreds of deer.
David Berry was ordered by a court in Missouri to watch the film at least once a month during his year-long jail sentence in what conservation agents have called one of the largest deer poaching cases in state history.
The deer were trophy bucks taken illegally, mostly at night, for their heads, leaving the bodies of the deer to waste, said Don Trotter, the prosecuting attorney in Lawrence county in the states south-west.
Berry, his father, two brothers and another man who helped them had their hunting, fishing and trapping privileges revoked temporarily or permanently. The men have paid $51,000 in fines and court costs but the judge ordered a special addition to Berrys sentence for illegally taking wildlife.

More from the article:
His father, David Berry Sr, and his brother, Kyle Berry, were arrested in August after a nearly nine-month investigation that also involved cases in Kansas, Nebraska and Canada. The Missouri department of conservation said information from the investigation led to 14 Missouri residents facing more than 230 charges in 11 counties.
Investigators say Berry Srs other son, Eric Berry, was later caught with another person spotlighting deer, where poachers use light at night to make deer pause and easier to hunt.

On the other hand, speaking of hunters:
Hunters rescue deer stranded on frozen lake
By Michelle Gant, Fox News November 29, 2018 | 2:53pm
Two hunters rescued a deer stranded on a frozen lake in Pennsylvania and the dramatic sequence was all caught on video.
Josh Davis and Ed Schmalzle found the eight-point buck laying helplessly on the ice of Greeley Lake over 100 yards from shore on Saturday, just two days before hunting season.
The two men didnt want to see the animal suffer, they said, so they performed a rescue mission to save him.
. . .
Schmalzle carefully slid out onto the ice in a boat then tied the deer up with rope and was towed back to land while photographer Jeff Sidle captured the whole thing on camera.

(11,686 posts)He will not learn anything but I find it funny to force him to sit and watch deer running around looking cute.

(6,556 posts)Once a month will not produce any type of behavior modification. Once a day would become a negative reinforcer.

(9,775 posts)He should be sentenced to help the homeless and hungry citizens of America. Thats wasted food that could be used to feed them. Let the people he helps know exactly what he has done and why hes there to help them. Let him see and be around starving kids.
I mean they really think that watching Bambi is punishment? Even on a continuous loop its bull.

(22,166 posts)county. I had a place in the country (Missouri Ozarks) and a husband & wife team (one of my neighbors) moved right next to me.
They were poor, but very hard working, and determined to make a go of it (lived in a school bus). Every time I passed a deer that had been hit on the little 2 lane state highway going to town, I would call these two neighbors who would race over and salvage the hit deer if possible.
There were other agencies in the area that also benefited from hit deer (for deer lovers, which I am one, they were way too many deer, in that they were eating themselves out of food and thus becoming smaller in size since not enough food). We also had places (butcher shops) that would clean and butcher the deer prior to donating the meat. All good causes.

(2,754 posts)Called the sheriff and game warden. The sheriff got there first and her boyfriend that came with her cut the deer off the fence. If you look closely you can see that he is hanging on the fence only by some hide / muscle around its arm. I believe he had also been pierced on his chest around his heart but had kicked his way loose from that, tearing his flesh. There was quite a bit of blood on the fence and ground. Freezing weather was forecast for that night and when I found him, it was only about an hour before dark. Also there are many coyotes and bobcats in the area. As soon as he was cut free he ran off. Though I looked for him later, I never found out what happened to him. I dont know if his injuries were too serious to recover from, but thanks to the guy that cut him down, at least he had a chance.

Good for you for intervening!

(2,754 posts)The building behind it is a boat storage building. Yeah, I almost installed that kind of fence on my property until the guy said that the stakes up top would probably not keep predators out ( I have dogs) but would likely injure deer which are aquite plentiful.
I had to move from there though and I really miss it
