DOJ Approves New Florida Early Voting Plan

Source: TPM

The Justice Department has signed off on Florida's plan to implement an early voting schedule that would keep the polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. over an eight-day period that ends three days before the election. DOJ said in a court filing it would not object so long as each of the five counties covered by Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act were required to keep those hours.

-snip-

DOJ said the newly proposed hours "would provide for 12 hours of early voting on Sunday that were not previously offered, and it would more than double early voting opportunities on weekends by increasing weekend hours from 16 hours total to 36 hours during the early voting period."

Good news.

The early-voting hours now include the second Sunday before the election, rather than the Sunday directly before, which would have been best for us.

But it still helps black churches get their people to the polls. It's better than not having any Sunday voting at all.

Mathematically, Romney could still win without Ohio. It would be a long shot, but possible.

Without Florida, Romney would have to pull off upsets in PA and Michigan to win.

I want to believe, I may be way off base, that the Democrats are doing the remedies drip by drip so that their remedies are solid closer to the Voting Date -- that way the Thugs may not have time to try another way to block the votes --- maybe I'm dreaming.

but Gov. Scott is a jackass. Same with OH. Its blatant, in your face voter suppression and purging which I hope will backfire on the GOP 24/7.
