Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif), the likely next chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said Sunday that Democrats will challenge the appointment of new acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker.
"Yes and yes," Schiff told ABC's "This Week" when asked if Democrats would push back against Whitaker's appointment and if he is still concerned that he poses a threat to special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian election meddling and alleged collusion between Trump's 2016 campaign and Moscow.
"I think the appointment is unconstitutional," Schiff said, adding that Whitaker's appointment has to be subject to Senate confirmation. "But it's also in conflict with a more specific statute," he said. "There's a succession statute for the Justice Department, which makes it different from other departments."
"So it's a flawed appointment, but the biggest flaw from my point of view is that he was chosen for the purpose of interfering with the Mueller investigation," Schiff said, echoing claims of other Democrats.

(81,483 posts)Adam Schiff ROCKS! Were FINALLY gonna get some meaningful work out of that committee now that Adam Schiff will be moving Devin Nunes aside. Shoulda been kicked to the curb a few days ago. But at least he wont be chairman anymore! That election just took all his teeth out. Figuratively speaking, of course.

(70,584 posts)Acting U.S. Attorney General Matt Whitaker is facing scrutiny over his involvement in alleged scams at a patent company, including claims of time travel, proof of Bigfoot, and a "masculine toilet" invention.
Mother Jones reports Whitaker was named to the advisory board of World Patent Marketing in Nov. 2014, the same month the Miami Beach-based firm announced the launch of an extra-deep toilet designed to help "well-endowed men" go to the bathroom without their genitalia making contact with the porcelain or water.
"The average male genitalia is between 5 inches and 6 inches," the invention-marketing company said. "However, this invention is designed for those of us who measure longer than that."

World Patent Marketing also said "time travel" could be "possible, perhaps within the next decade" to raise money for a "theoretical time travel commodity tied directly to price of Bitcoin." Time Travel X was branded as "an investment vehicle" that could help users "relive moments from your past" or "visit your future."

BTW World Patent Marketing paid $26 million in fines for their scams too. He'll fit right in w/Donny and his
Trump U. scams.

Schiff said, "A lot more than that". Chris asked, "100?". And Schiff said that was more like it. Swalwell said the same thing.

Trump has been aggressive about bullying norms - basically flouting law, regulations, precedents - and daring anyone to do something about it. It works. What would force him to put someone qualified in as acting AG?
Even the Child Jails are still open, and there was a clear directive from the Judiciary to end the policy.
