Trump defends skipping cemetery visit in France: Secret Service said I couldn't drive there
Source: The Hill
President Trump on Tuesday defended his decision to cancel his trip to a cemetery in France last weekend due to bad weather, tweeting that he was urged to back out of the visit by Secret Service.
The president said he suggested driving to make the visit in bad weather, but the "Secret Service said NO."
By the way, when the helicopter couldnt fly to the first cemetery in France because of almost zero visibility, I suggested driving, Trump tweeted Tuesday morning.
Secret Service said NO, too far from airport & big Paris shutdown, he continued. Speech next day at American Cemetary [sic] in pouring rain! Little reported-Fake News!

ARLINGTON, Va. - Several years of traffic headaches are expected for commuters who use the Arlington Memorial Bridge to travel between Virginia and the District of Columbia.
The six-lane Arlington Memorial Bridge spanning the Potomac River was reduced from six-lanes to three lanes beginning Monday.
The National Park Service says they plan to run two inbound lanes in the morning and one outbound lane during the weekday mornings. That traffic pattern will reverse on weekday afternoons and evenings.
The Park Service says two lanes will be inbound and one will be outbound on weekends and holidays.

(58,349 posts)Pretty uncommon for the secret service to decide where a president does and does not go. Their job isn't to keep the president from ever going into places that might need security - it's to give him/her security wherever he decides to go, whether it be to the KFC or a war zone or a cemetery.
Fucking liar.

(24,259 posts)The helicopter the president uses is a beefed up version of the same one the Coast Guard uses to do rescue and emergency transport even during a friggin hurricane.
The car he rides in is one of the most secure in the world.
The other world leaders, including the 93 yr old Queen of England, managed to make it.
The next day event he wanted applause for going to was after the blow up making him look like the whine-ass schmuck that he is. He HATES to be mocked and ridiculed so he decides to make the effort to go to that (where he 'jokes', aka whines, that that they're dry while he's not) so he can say, See I'm not a bad guy, it's the "fake news" that's bad.
I'm pretty darn sure that he the real reason that he went had zero to do with honouring Veterans of the 100 year anniversary of Armistice and had everything to do with... Putin.
