Some medical professionals blatantly told the National Rifle Association to get out of their way and quit rubbernecking. Just days after the NRA told the medical community to "stay in their own lane" when it comes to gun control, the doctors and nurses poked back. And the images weren't pretty.

In a small timeframe surrounding the Thousand Oaks, Calif., bar shooting last week, the NRA replied to an American College of Physicians paper that outlined the rise of gun violence in America.

Several hours before 12 people were shot and killed at Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, Calif., on Thursday morning, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention produced more numbers that show gun deaths are on the rise. CDC also calls for doctors to continue helping protect patients from the dangers of firearms in America.

In its flagship publication, the American College of Physicians (ACP) introduced several new data about rising gun violence.

5. My daughter is a physicians assistant who worked in an ER in Baltimore and a hospital in AZ.

She has seen things no young person should have to endure, and told me she's worked on more shooting victims than she can count.

Addressing gun violence is also addressing the mental health of our medical professionals who are bombarded with this violence eery day on the job.

6. The NRA has widened the medical profession's "lane"....

so it's more of a super-highway than a two lane road. When there's as much traffic as endured by the medical profession I'd say they can discuss that traffic as much as they want. The NRA built the highway, widened it to four lanes, took away the speed limits, and advertised that it's the fucking Autobahn now. Then they want the medical profession to maintain the highway and take full responsibility for the carnage that happens on it.

Fuck you, NRA. You jackasses won't be happy until every American has enough guns to kill everyone within their sight. Then sell them a few more for "back-ups".

7. Larry Flynt was right

We can show nearly complete sex on TV (and very suggestive afternoon soaps watched by those who bitch about too much skin on TV at night) , fake murders, explosions (that evidently happen all the time) and all kinds of physical and mental assaults on prime time but not real murders on the 6 o'clock news because that might offend those holier-than-thou types with their heads up their asses. And gawd forbid someone swears on TV, or heavens, drops the "F" bomb 'cause we can't have our kids hearing that filth. But until we start showing real pictures and videos of what guns and violence in real life in real time does to people, (and not just in the yellow tabloids) nothing will change. Of course, even that probably won't change the limited mentality of the NRA and 33% of America...until it happens to one of their own or affects them financially. And why? Because it never happens to me! It's always someone else, but, thoughts and prayers to them and theirs! Get the kids in the car for soccer practice or ballet.

And in real life all you need to do is insert another quarter or hit reset and life is just fine.

Maybe if some saw what bullets really do to people it might have some effect, especially on children.

I spent 15 years as a medic, and trained at Charity Hospital New Orleans when it was the gunshot capital of the world.

The NRA and its goons want a highway with NO lanes. They refuse to even fund research into gun violence. There's a difference between a lane on the Autobahn at 100 mph and a lane in the center of a third-world country with no traffic laws---its chaos.

I support research, is that too much to ask? Apparently so.
