After Blowback, AP Deletes Tweet Quoting Trump's False Claim

The Associated Press deleted a tweet Tuesday that quoted a false claim President Donald Trump made directly and without any context, after getting pushback from some political observers.

We have deleted a tweet about President Trump’s claim that the U.S. is the only country that grants birthright citizenship because it failed to note that his statement was incorrect.

The criticism centered around the fact that the tweet presented the President’s claim as truth, when few laymen have the requisite background to know that it’s false.

trump noises: We're the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States, with all of those benefits, and I'm going to sign an executive order that will get rid of that bigly.

Ron Howard: We aren't, and he can't.

trump noises: "I remember when we had the attack in Manhattan. We opened that stock exchange the next day; people were shocked. A great group of people — the head of the New York Stock Exchange is just a fantastic guy — Dick. And he opened it up."

Ron Howard: "He doesn't, and it actually stayed closed for a week"




He'd literally go horse from all the voice work he'd get from that gig.

I find it hard to believe that AP does not even make a rudimentary fact check of anything they are reporting on uttered by trump. Makes me question anything with their byline or attribution.

1) There are over three dozen countries that have such a law, including Canada and,

2) trmp cannot over-ride a Constitutional Amendment with an executive order.

If anyone in Congress is stupid enough to follow up on this by introducing a bill, it is still preposterous. It takes a lot more than a bill in Congress to demolish a Constitutional Amendment.

And thank goodness for that.

His statement does not make sense. Of course we are the only country where a baby is born and is a US citizen. Yes I know, embassy people or American citizens having a baby abroad, but that is not what he meant.
