Graham to introduce legislation ending birthright citizenship

Source: The Hill

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said on Tuesday that he will introduce legislation to end birthright citizenship after President Trump suggested he could do so through an executive order.

"Finally, a president willing to take on this absurd policy of birthright citizenship. I’ve always supported comprehensive immigration reform – and at the same time – the elimination of birthright citizenship," Graham said in a string of tweets.

He added that he plans "to introduce legislation along the same lines as the proposed executive order" from Trump. Congress is out of session until Nov. 13.

His announcement comes hours after Trump said in an interview released Tuesday that he will sign an executive order intended to end the practice of birthright citizenship.

But you can be pretty sure that research is under way now to identify family members of republicans who have benefited in some way from birthright citizenship. Maybe spouses of republicans and their family members who were born in the US to foreign parents.

What's next? Denying citizenship to Americans born to American parents abroad? Denying birthright citizenship only to selected groups?

And, to the extent that this heads to the Supreme Court, something tells me that the fix is already in.

It goes straight to the question of how far is Graham willing to go to "suck up" to trmp ? A common expression. Doesn't need to be seen as homophobic.

I was about to post this: Hey Lindsey, just how far up trmp's ass is your tongue.

In the follow up to Guy Ritchey's "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrel," movie, titled, "Snatch" (about a diamond heist,by the way, lest anyone think I'm talking about female anatomy - see, context is everything), the character Brick Top accuses a sycophant of sucking up by asking him to "Pull your tongue out of my asshole." No homophobia implied. Just a turn of a phrase that people use all the time. Nothing sexual to it at all.

Get a grip.

Tue Oct 30, 2018, 12:31 PM

From Common Cause:

[A well-funded, highly coordinated national effort is underway to call a constitutional convention, under Article V of the U.S. Constitution, for the first time in history. The result of such a convention could be a complete overhaul of the Constitution and supporters of the convention are dangerously close to succeeding. With special interest groups gaining more momentum, conservative advocates are just six states short of reaching the constitutionally-required 34-state goal. They are targeting Republican-controlled legislatures in 2018 and are within striking distance.]

If you haven't heard of this before, it is truly scary. Well-funded, stealthy initiative from the Kochtopus. Keep your eyes on this little snake slithering around in the shadows.

If it's as simple as saying you're only considered a citizen if born to legal residents, I really dont have a problem with that. We all know of the "Birth tourism" that goes on, especially from China. The talk about Cruz & Rubio; well they would be legal because their parents were legal residents.
But still, as you point out, it takes a lot to pass an amendment or change one.

“If it's as simple as saying you're only considered a citizen if born to legal residents”

By “born to legal residents”, do you mean BOTH parents has to be a legal resident? Or do you mean just one parent.

And if you mean just one parent, then you mean the mother, right? After all, she’s the only one who would have to show up at a medical facility, and I’m not aware of any medical facility which does not take the mother’s word on who is the father, if known.

So every hospital is going to have someone in charge of checking whether mothers are or are not legal US residents, is that correct?

If the mother identifies a father who is not present, then how is the legal resident status of that father determined?

Hell, they dont even give you a BC until the parents decide on a name.
You don't think verification would be a pretty easy task?
If you are an immigrant here legally you'd be able to show that easily. Just like when applying for a job or benefits. They damn sure get all your insurance info while you're there!
And when I say "legal residents", I'm including those who are not yet citizens, but are here legally. Which wold also be very easy to show. And yes, I think one legal citizen parent would be allowed, as I believe it is today if you're born outside the US.
I do wonder about your point on the father; a hospital will let the mother just name the father without ANY agreement or proof? So a woman could give birth and say I was the father and I wouldn't even KNOW it? Seriously, I ask because I have no idea. If thats the way it is, I wonder how often someone is named as father who really ISNT?
