Longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone bragged about Wikileaks plans to release stolen emails from Democratic Party officials on conference calls during the run-up to the 2016 election, the Wall Street Journal reports.
At least twice during August 2016, the Trump adviser had conference calls where he told callers about WikiLeaks plans to release information that he said would affect the 2016 presidential campaign before the election, the paper reports.
The report is sourced to people who listened to the sessions and recordings of one of the calls published online and reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. Its a matter that special counsel Robert Muellers investigators are looking into, according to a witness in the probe and another person familiar with the matter.
In the background of this entire race going forward is the fact that Julian Assange
is going to continue to drop information on the American voters that is going to roil this race, Mr. Stone said on Aug. 4, 2016. He has made that very clear.

originating the plans.
We can't conflate his knowledge of a crime with the crime itself. He didn't even keep silent about the plans, so he can't even be charged with being an accomplice or conspirator.
I don't know how he could have stopped Assange, either, so he can't even be charged with aiding and abetting.
I think we need to rethink the legal end of his situation.
Because he doesn't appear, at least from this report, to have done anything against the U.S. except run his mouth about how others would hurt the election.

(33,643 posts)That doesn't mean he was NOT involved in originating the plan, AND if it could be proven he knew about the nature of the docs, i.e. that they were hacked/stolen from the DNC by Russian Operatives, and did nothing to report it ... OR if it can be proven he contributed in some way to the commission of the theft, such as being involved in $50K payoffs ... you never know.

(15,286 posts)from Stone, but I don't doubt at all that Stone was able to pass along and receive info as needed even if at arm's length.

(2,410 posts)Don't mean to be picky, but the correct term would be "Democratic emails."
