Roundup found in Cheerios reignites debate on food safety

Source: StarTribune

A national environmental research and advocacy group Wednesday issued a second report documenting traces of the herbicide Roundup in popular oat cereals such as Cheerios, saying that its presence in food creates an unnecessary cancer risk to children.

It is the latest development in a raging controversy over the most widely used pesticide in the world, which most government regulators and food industry leaders say poses no health risk in the amounts that people get in their food.

“No question, our foods are safe,” said Michael Siemienas, spokesman for General Mills, the maker of Cheerios.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG), which uses science to advocate environmental policy changes, tested 28 food products containing oats. It found that all but two contained traces of Roundup, an herbicide made by Monsanto that is widely used on everything from food crops to backyard weeds.

The levels, though, were far below the concentrations deemed unsafe by state and federal regulators.

The products included items made by Quaker Oats, a subsidiary of PepsiCo., and seven different kinds of Cheerios.

IMO, any level of a herbicide/pesticide in my food is unacceptable. I eat organic foods whenever possible.

The article has a map of the US showing concentrations of roundup usage. What in the world is going on in North Dakota!!

I did not read the article you posted, but I do know some organic growers have issues to the point of lawsuits against neighboring growers that use chemicals for their chemicals. Their chemical growing practices can drift to the organic farm land.

The practice of organic growers is our best bet to have healthier food. There is no reason to criticize organic growers. It is our best efforts to clean food.

One of their favorites is called SPINOSAD.

SPINOSAD is also used on marijuana crops FYI!

It is used in anti-flea products that are sold to put on YOUR cat or dog.

This shit killed my beloved cat in 2016! Death via neurotoxic paralysis was NOT FUNNY! It was the most horrific thing I've ever witnessed!

DO NOT BE FOOLED!

while pesticide and herbicide soaked food raises the risk of cancer.

The AgChem GMO giants & apologists are going to have to amend their propaganda, and maybe reckon with the reality of their crappy food. That would be the honest thing to do.

NY Times two days ago:
"In a study, those who ate more organic produce, dairy, meat and other products had 25 percent fewer cancer diagnoses over all, especially lymphoma and breast cancer..."

involved in an application of herbicide. No farmer could afford to apply that quantity of glyphosate. Do you have any idea what 160 ppm looks like?

It is being fed to our most vulnerable because it is touted as healthy whole grain nutrition that travels easily in a ziplock bag.
