USA TODAY/Suffolk poll: There is a 'Kavanaugh effect,' and it boosts Democrats more than the GOP

Source: USA Today

WASHINGTON – Brett Kavanaugh now sits on the Supreme Court, but the contentious battle over his nomination continues to reverberate in the run-up to next month's midterm elections.

A new USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll finds that more than six in 10 likely voters say Kavanaugh's confirmation after facing allegations of sexual assault makes them more likely to vote for one party or the other. Despite the conventional wisdom that the fight energized the GOP base, these voters are more likely to say it has spurred them to support Democrats.

...snip...

In the survey, 35 percent said Kavanaugh's confirmation made them more likely to vote for a Democratic congressional candidate and 27 percent said it made them more likely to vote for a Republican congressional candidate. Another 37 percent said it wouldn't affect their vote.

There was a gender difference: By 3 percentage points, men said it made them more likely to vote Democratic. By 12 points, women said it made them more likely to vote Democratic.

Those people were going to vote, and they were going to vote "R". The "enthusiasm" increase was bogus from the start.

I thought right away he's bluffing. Also, he needs something to point to if the repubs hold congress despite polls to the contrary...ie voter suppression.

Also, it is kind of a threat: do something that upsets the republican power structure and be prepaird to pay a price.

A woman who has been assaulted or discriminated against or otherwise mistreated because of her gender. I don't know how republicans couldn't imagine a backlash of angry women voters and the men who loved them when they had a joke of an investigation, ignoring people who could have corroborated Ford, and even coming out and saying EVEN IF CONVINCED OF THE CHARGES AGAINST KAVANAUGH, WE'RE STILL VOTING FOR HIM.

It's not that a woman was told, "We don't believe you," but WOMEN who were told, "Even if we did believe you, we wouldn't care."

Republicans are still of the mindset that women can't or shouldn't have opinions of their own. It's why they thought Palin was a good choice. If we put a woman on the ballot, that's all that will matter to the little dears. It's not like they really care about issues. Someone with the same sex organs as they have will encourage them to vote for us. They do it with minorities too, and I imagine each time a woman or minority candidate loses, they huddle together and have a conversation that's asking, "But our candidate was female/Black/Hispanic/etc... why didn't women/Blacks/Hispanics/etc. for for him/her?" over and over.
