More Khashoggi-MBS Links Revealed as Suspected Killer Dies in 'Suspicious Car Accident'

Source: Haaretz

The New York Times also tied Saudi crown prince to the alleged killers citing that, 'American intelligence officials are increasingly convinced that [the crown prince] is culpable in the killing'

"A man who previously traveled with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s entourage to the United States entered the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul just before writer Jamal Khashoggi vanished there, according to images published Thursday by a pro-government Turkish newspaper.

The Sabah newspaper’s report showed the man also later outside the Saudi consul general’s home, checking out of a Turkish hotel as a large suitcase stood by his side, and leaving Turkey on Oct. 2."

"A report Wednesday by the pro-government newspaper Yeni Safak, citing what it described as an audio recording of Khashoggi’s slaying, said a Saudi team immediately accosted the 60-year-old journalist after he entered the consulate, cutting off his fingers and later decapitating him.

The same Turkish newspaper reported on Oct. 18 that one of the suspects involved in the disappearance of Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi died in a “suspicious car accident” in Riyadh.

The paper named Mashal Saad al-Bostani, a 31-year-old lieutenant of the Saudi Royal Air Forces."

CCTV images have emerged purportedly showing another of the 15 suspects, Maher Abdulaziz Mutreb, entering the consulate building at 9.55am (pictured) hours before the writer entered the same building in Istanbul.

Maher Abdulaziz Mutreb, reportedly now being sought by Turkish authorities for questioning over Khashoggi's disappearance, can be seen in the background as Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman visits a Habitat for Humanity in Houston, Texas in April

U.S. Spy Agencies Are Increasingly Convinced of Saudi Prince’s Ties to Journalist’s Disappearance

<snip>

"American intelligence officials are increasingly convinced that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia is culpable in the killing of the dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi, an appraisal that poses challenges to a White House intent on maintaining a close relationship with the kingdom.

Intelligence agencies have not yet been able to collect direct evidence of the prince’s involvement, American and European officials said. They also have not been able to conclude whether Prince Mohammed directly ordered the killing of Mr. Khashoggi, or whether his intention was to have Mr. Khashoggi captured and taken back to Saudi Arabia, according to one official.

But intelligence agencies have growing circumstantial evidence of the prince’s involvement — including the presence of members of his security detail and intercepts of Saudi officials discussing a possible plan to detain Mr. Khashoggi, according to American officials.

Officials have also said the prince’s complete control over the security services makes it highly unlikely that an operation would have been undertaken without his knowledge."

Or is it a sign that MBS relies on the same people whose job functions are multifaceted?

They probably wouldn't have considered this before, but now -- well, they'd be crazy not to. Clever move, MBS.

I know I've seen 3 or 4 reports of it in the last day, just looking around online.

The reason I ask is that it was mentioned to Chris Matthews on his MSNBC show this evening---and it was profoundly obvious that it was the first time Matthews had heard of it. A relatively minor point, but it can be added to the ongoing discussion of Matthews' declining on-air skills.
