Republican leaders in Congress are taking a cautious approach in their response to mounting evidence that the Saudi royal family is linked to the suspected death of U.S.-based journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said they will wait on the results of an investigation by the Trump administration into Khashoggis disappearance, a process that could take weeks or months.

GOP leaders are in a difficult position because they dont want to pick a fight with President Trump over his Middle East policy, into which Saudi Arabia figures prominently, less than three weeks from the Nov. 6 midterm elections.
.....................................................
But some members of their conferences -- Sens. Marco Rubio (Fla.), a prominent member of the Foreign Relations Committee, and Lindsey Graham (S.C.), one of Trumps closest allies and chairman of the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee -- are pressing for Congress to act independently...........................................

(24,330 posts)Rand Paul and Mike Lee are both less than supportive of Saudi Arabia and have voted against giving the Saudis the toys they want to kill people.
Add to that, at least a plurality, if not more, of Americans do not have favorable opinions of Saudi Arabia, this could be interesting politically

And TRUMP is not doing an investigation. The FBI/DOJ is...you know...those guys that Trump says can't be trusted.

(11,495 posts)Someone posted a few days or more back that Jarred had talked with the prince the day before it happened, and as many on the news have stated, it's kind of odd why the Saudis were so public about how they did it, and didn't seem to be worried at all about getting caught.
Makes on wonder just how deep in this whole murder plot Jarred and trump might be, and why it's taking so long to get to the bottom of things.

(13,571 posts)....maybe the Saudis meant to put Jared/Trump in a dangerous and compromising situation.
Maybe the Saudis now have them by the short and curlies.
"Cross us and we will release the evidence that you (Jared, Trump...) knew about this in advance...."
It's possible.

(11,495 posts)That might be why they haven't come up with any "evidence" yet. I am sure that the after two weeks the intelligence agencies here know something, but they are not saying what for some reason or another. They do report to trump, and we all know if he was involved in this, he is going to do his best to cover it all up, like the Russia thing!
