Heidi Heitkamp was ready to vote 'yes' on Kavanaugh. Then she watched him with the sound off.

Source: CNN

Bismarck, North Dakota (CNN)Sen. Heidi Heitkamp was ready to vote 'yes' on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Having been just one of three Democratic senators to vote to confirm President Donald Trump's first Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, Heitkamp had already instructed her staff to begin drafting a statement explaining why she thought Kavanaugh deserved her vote as well. Then Christine Blasey Ford came forward and accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were both in high school.

"I was concerned about these allegations but willing to give him the benefit of the doubt," the North Dakota senator told CNN in an interview.

Heitkamp is in the fight of her political life, trying to hold onto her seat in this red state where President Trump won by 36 percentage points. Her calling card is crossing party lines, especially when it comes to presidential appointments. Deciding to vote no for Kavanaugh was probably riskier for her than any other Democrat.

1. I thought his micro-expressions were very telling.

I think he's a practiced liar, but not a good one because in the past, the people he lied to either wanted to believe him or wanted him to get away with it. Anyway, I think I saw subtle expressions of discomfort and remembering and shame.

Nose touching is something law enforcement investigators associate with lying.

Body language research shows that when people lie, they tend to touch their nose, wiggle it, screw it up or make an expression as if smelling something bad.

The man touched his nose than anyone I've ever seen.

Research has consistently shown that people's ability to detect lies is no more accurate than chance, or flipping a coin. This finding holds across all types of people — students, psychologists, judges, job interviewers and law enforcement personnel (Personality and Social Psychology Review, 2006).

[link:https://www.spring.org.uk/2012/02/lies-why-they-are-so-hard-to-detect.php|

Certainly under laboratory conditions people are very poor at detecting when other people are lying. Across 206 studies people’s hit rates for detecting lies was 54%, which seeing as you’d get 50% right by pure chance is not very impressive (Bond & DePaulo, 2006).

We tend to often think we can detect a liar, but science shows we are really not that good.
But in our case, it was easy: Republicans are liars and then we proceed with that assumption.

She didn't believe What "he said"

With regard to his demeanor, Heitkamp said the final straw was the way Kavanaugh went after her Democratic colleague from Minnesota, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, when he asked her if she had ever blacked out drunk after she had asked him the same question.

9. He actually seems to have confessed in one statement to her that's not gotten any press coverage.

Skip to his 1st statement in response to the question Senator Klobuchar poses at the 2-minute mark:

I haven’t seen this reported on in any media. His response seems to implicitly give away that he remembers that night with Dr. Ford. Is it a momentary lapse in his guard?
He turns the challenge back on her immediately after, once he catches himself, IMO.

His anger and entitlement mean he doesn't have the temperament to be a SC judge with a lifetime appointment.

I watched as much of the Kavanaugh fawning as I could stand, but one thing I noticed before flipping the channel was his thanks to his friends who stood by him—his very good friends. His emphasis on “his good friends” seemed a bit odd. How many of them were promised retribution if they told the truth about him?
