Matt Shuham contributed reporting.
President Donald Trump told reporters Saturday that his decision to mock Christine Blasey Ford at a campaign rally had a great impact on Supreme Court Justice Kavanaughs eventual confirmation.
I think that the Mississippi speech had a great impact, yes, Trump said ahead of a Kansas rally, at which he further celebrated Kavanaughs confirmation. I think it was a very important thing. Hey look, the Washington Post said it on their front page. I cant believe they said it, but they said it.
To cheers of supporters at the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka, Trump declared it an "historic night," not long after signing the paperwork to make Kavanaugh's status official.
"I stand before you today on the heels of a tremendous victory for our nation," he said to roars, thanking Republican senators for refusing to back down "in the face of the Democrats' shameless campaign of political and personal destruction."

(9,426 posts)The gop got what they wanted. All they needed in the WH was someone to sign any bills the gop put before them. Since the Orange Blob does not read, he just scribbles his signature, shows it off like a 1st grader, and the gop is happy. Now that the gop has forever put the WH in a shameful category, here they go for the SC. I laughed watching the Forst Laydee in Egypt. The commentator said she is ready to go home and tell her husband all about her trip. "See Dahnald, I vent to some shithole countries. They treated me nice. Nobody asked for a nude, signed photo of me. THAT vas disappointing, but I left copies with their leaders anyway"

"I don't like him either, but you should keep it civil."
"You can disagree with his politics like I do, but it's not fair to hate him as a person."
To hell with that. I can and do hate him as a person. It's that person who is doing the horrible politics.

Ok Donnie, then all the goons at your rallies have been PAID to be there too as I keep seeing the same people over and over. See...we can all play that game instead of letting that fat orange POS frame every discussion.

(10,011 posts)He is a reality TV president, and he entertains his supporters and creates a crisis a day just to keep people watching (the old daytime soap opera tease). So long as we have people who would rather be entertained than actually have to become informed and deal with real problems in this country, we will continue to elect people like Trump and his sycophants in Congressand in statehouses around the country. Its a sad commentary on the state of politics, but it is reality. We can talk about how disgusting it is, but we will not convince his supporters to change and we should not waste time trying. The only people we have a chance of reaching are independents and younger voters without strong party allegiance.

(57,482 posts)***** didn't make a great impact. His words didn't have any impact at all.
Suppose that on the afternoon of September Kavanaugh had, following Ford's testimony, sat down in the committee room and said these words:
"What you've just heard is true. But surely you're not going to judge me by something I did thirty-six years ago, are you?"
Do you think they wouldn't have gone ahead and confirmed him anyway?
All this talk about Collins and Manchin is a waste of time. The confirmation was going to happen under any circumstances.

(32,641 posts)There's no way the orange asshole was going to keep quiet and let somebody else get the credit. But I have a different theory and it has nothing to do with his abysmal behavior towards Dr. Ford.
My theory is that he watched Kavanaugh sniveling and crying under questioning (last week) and he sent a private text to Lindsey Graham and told him to shut this down immediately. Get mad and start accusing everybody. Because that's exactly what Graham did, straight out of the blue. They took the prosecutor out of the room when Graham started screaming. Then Kavanaugh started getting angry and throwing ridiculous accusations around, channeling Cheeto directly from the White House.
We watched The Borg in action that day.
