HERSHEL FROM 'THE WALKING DEAD' SCOTT WILSON DIES AT 76

Scott Wilson -- a veteran actor with more than 50 movie credits, but best known recently for his role as Hershel Greene on "The Walking Dead" -- has died ... TMZ has learned.
Scott's rep, Dominic Mancini, tells us he died due to complications from leukemia. Mancini says Wilson was "a national treasure, a calm voice, and a gentle spirit to everyone who came in contact with him." We're told he passed away peacefully at his home in L.A.
It was recently revealed by 'TWD' showrunner Angela Kang at the show's panel at New York Comic-Con that Scott -- along with former stars Sonequa Martin-Green and Jon Bernthal -- would be returning for the upcoming ninth season, which premieres Sunday.
Wilson's Hollywood career began in 1967 when he landed a role in the classic film, "In the Heat of the Night." He went on to star in "In Cold Blood" and appear in several other legendary movies like "The Great Gatsby" and "Dead Man Walking."

His character was wonderful. I wanted him to be my dad.

(2,654 posts)I smile when I think of the gosh-forsaken desert watering hole commanded by Pancho Barnes (unforgettably portrayed by Kim Stanley) who would recognize a pudknocker as soon as one entered through the saloon door. The film's portrayal of Crossfield in the saloon was brief, but nonetheless pivotal as it highlighted the competition among the pilots and aeronautic engineers.

(10,419 posts)First time I was aware of sound engineering in a film.
Now Kim and Scott and Sam are gone. The movie's 35 years old, so I guess that what happens.
We still have the glorious Ed Harris and Scott Glenn and Lance Henriksen . Time to start a prayer circle and include Betty White. She was looking very frail at the Emmys.
BTW I think Dennis Quaid's Esurance commercials are a riot.

(359 posts)this puzzles me:

In flashbacks? The characters played by Bernthal and Martin-Green died -- in Bernthal's case, at the end of the second season. How can they be "returning"?
In any case, RIP Scott.

(14,093 posts)Decades of good character work (Clay Pigeons is my fav role of his) and it was nice that he landed such a prominent role in his late career. It was well-deserved.
I have a friend who's big into WD fan communities and got to know him quite well over the years. Said he was a really good guy.
