Leading Democrat Vows Congressional Probe After FBI Whitewash Of Kavanaugh

The top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee says he will investigate alleged perjury and sexual misconduct by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, and slammed a "whitewash" probe completed by the FBI earlier this week.
The New York Times reported that Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), who will head the Judiciary Committee if Democrats take over the House after November's elections, said that the legitimacy of the Supreme Court is at stake, as the Senate prepared Saturday to confirm Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court.
Nadler made his remarks to The Times after a procedural vote that allowed Kavanaugh's nomination to advance to the vote in the full Senate on Saturday. "It is not something we are eager to do," Mr. Nadler told The Times on Friday. "But the Senate having failed to do its proper constitutionally mandated job of advise and consent, we are going to have to do something to provide a check and balance, to protect the rule of law and to protect the legitimacy of one of our most important institutions."
Kavanaugh, a conservative federal court judge, looks all-but-certain to be confirmed to the U.S. high court, despite a raft of sexual misconduct allegations. Democrats also say Kavanaugh committed perjury in his testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee when asked about his past drinking and aggressive behavior with women, which they say should also disqualify him from sitting on the nation's highest court. - More...

(2,275 posts)This new Republican establishment needs a check on its behavior. We have a rogue party to constrain. Playing nice and currying favor for DC dinner party invitations is out.
I'm still for Pelosi, but no harm in telling her we'll have her back if she goes full steam on these misogynists.

(10,173 posts)Where Bush bigwigs were hauled in front of committees. An attorney general had to resign as well which was no mean feat.
And then OBama was elected, and he ended up with a shit ton on his plate to fix Bush's mess.

(51,615 posts)Isn't that where the three branches are supposed to act in a non partisan fashion? Are they supposed to be separate and not controlled and influenced by each other? The Founding Fathers are spinning in their graves...they never intended for a dictatorship of the richest minority would rule the poorer majority.

(14,175 posts)But I'm counting on 'nice Nancy" to quash this quietly, as usual, once a few more news cycles go by.
Isn't it possible, I'm no expert, but could the utter incompetency, and immorality of Kavanaugh and the Repukes rush to get him confirmed actually go in our favour? That is, if he is confirmed, and joins the SCOTUS, and he's there past the point where the Repukes can put someone else in there, and a new D House initiates a new thorough FBI investigation it could lead to grounds for impeachment, and even perhaps Kavanaugh being disbarred.
Then Democrats, if they can keep their spines intact, can hold off any new Trump nominees until 2020.
