Liberal groups won't support Democrats backing Kavanaugh
Source: Reuters
Democrats have organized to oppose Kavanaugh, with opposition intensifying after Christine Blasey Ford last month accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault when they were teenagers.
Bredesen, who polls indicate is locked in a dead heat for the Tennessee seat being vacated by a Republican, said in a statement Friday that he would have voted for Kavanaugh had he been in the Senate. Manchin, who is leading in his re-election bid to represent conservative-leaning West Virginia, said Friday that he will back Kavanaugh in the final senate confirmation vote expected on Saturday.
MoveOn said on Twitter it has canceled campaigning for Manchin and would also cancel more than $100,000 worth of online advertising it had planned to buy in support of Bredesen.
Priorities USA has not yet spent any money to support either candidate and will not do so following their support of Kavanaugh, spokesman Josh Schwerin said in a phone interview.

In 6 years in fucking 20 year, 50 years.....this party must take back our country, and we must do it soon. The house is a start... Senate will be tough, but could happen.... I'M not counting on that, but a nice NOVEMBER surprise would be nice......

(131,028 posts)I understand that Bredesen was a very good, progressive, and popular governor. Getting him into the Senate is important to me, especially to keep her OUT.
He said: "While the subsequent events make it a much closer call, and I am missing key pieces of information that a sitting Senator has, Im still a yes'." https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/politics/tn-elections/2018/10/05/key-kavanaugh-vote-u-s-senate-begins-bredesen-says-he-supports-nominee/1524565002/
Clearly, IF repugs had permitted full disclosure, and a decent FBI investigation, things would be different for many.

No, it probably wouldn't make a difference to many because most people have made up their minds on Kavenaugh.
Then there are politicians like Bredesen who put their finger in the wind and state how they WOULD vote if they WERE in the Senate. Egads, is anyone stupider and more obvious than a politician betraying their party to get votes?

(10,565 posts)Its time to move on to November. Bredesen can win in TN. Anyone who wants to hand over Corkers seat to the odious Blackburn is foolish. That kind of thinking will ensure the Democratic Party will stay in the minority in the Senate.
I know it is tempting to want to reject moderates, but we HAVE to become the party of moderation.
Yes I know that's a new thing in my view as I am a solid Liberal on nearly all issues, but we must support moderates, ESPECIALLY those in red states. If not we get Blackburn, who is a horrible human.

(21,134 posts)Don't get me wrong. I would love to see us take every seat. I'd love it if every Democrat's coffers were overflowing. I respect MoveOn's decision to put their money where their values are. If I got to pick two, I'd rather win with McCaskill and Heitkamp than with Bresden and Manchin.
Your Mileage May Vary.

He should just switch parties so we could run a real Democrat against him

(7,006 posts)Bredesen is not in the Senate YET so at this point, he should be supported until his votes in the Senate prove otherwise.
However, take the Money wasted on Manchin, DON'T WASTE ANOTHER DIME ---> AND MOVE IT TO ND where HEIDI HEITKAMP NEEDS THE HELP!

(3,433 posts)It determines who runs the committees. Without a majority we could very likely end up with 6 justices on scotus instead of 5. Do you want that? Ginsberg is old. I love her but she is old and can't live forever. Look at Scalia, no one expected him to die.

(23,134 posts)However, when Heitkamp and McCaskill demonstrated our values and Mancin demonstrated he doesn't care about women, doesn't trust them and likes RW rapists & liars more - well who deserves the $$ more? WV knows Mancin is s repug pretending to be a Dem, that's not the same with Heitkamp & McCaskill. Give the limited $$ to those that deserve it. I'd rather lose Mancin than either one of the 2 women. I'd still rather Mancin win than his opponent, because Mancin is 61% Reug, the other guy will be 100%, but he's far ahead and made this craven vote for a rapist, so he's on his own and will probably win anyway.
radical noodle
(8,008 posts)they're cutting loose. We know very well what Blackburn is like. Do we want her on the Senate?
lark
(23,134 posts)If he would confirm a rapist, then would he be any better than her? Would it still not be good to put $$ with McCskill and keep her who will vote against rapist, than get Breseden (not sure about spelling) and a different guy from NB and have 2 votes for rapists? In a world of limited $$, spend according to values and reality. if there's enough, run a smaller buy for TN, but no major expenditures for women hating asses.

(4,889 posts)When a Dem acts like a Rep neither side can trust him/her.
Despite Democrats and demonstrators venting their rage and resistance, U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) was once again a key vote in confirming Kavanaugh. Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska is opposed, but voted present as a courtesy to another Republican who is out of town
Will repeat he is a republican who could not run on republican ticket. Time for the democrats to back democrat candidates quit grooming republican candidates.
Good for moveon.
