Theresa May says the UK and EU are at an 'impasse' on Brexit -- sterling slides to a low on the news

Source: CNBC

British Prime Minister Theresa May said Friday that the European Union and the United Kingdom are at an "impasse" in talks over Brexit.

The U.K. leader reiterated that she will not overturn the result of the 2016 referendum and "nor will I break up my country."

Speaking from inside Number 10 Downing Street, May repeated that the options on offer from the EU were unacceptable and would "make a mockery of the referendum we had two years ago."

May also called on the EU to provide more detail on its negotiating position.

As best I can make out, it's the scene from Blazing Saddles where the sheriff took himself hostage.

Of course, that strategy depends on somebody saying, "Won't somebody help that poor man?" Instead Donald Tusk is taking photos of her at the cake stand and putting it on social media with captions like, "A piece of cake, perhaps? Sorry, no cherries."

I'm really struggling to recall an idea as bad as Brexit undertaken as rudely and incompetently as Brexit.

It screws up one of the fundamental parts of the Good Friday Agreement - that people should be able to cross the border without checks for customs, or passports. And as well screwing up Irish business, that might also make the return of violence more likely.

6. All fine with the Tories. They need someone for their troops to fight.

Since the UK really can’t go to war against another Argentina, some Irish Catholics will do fine.

The Tories have been killing them for centuries.

....where everyone is blaming everyone else for the mess caused by the sheer, staggering incompetence of the Brexshitters.

If the project to leave the EU was going anything other than disastrously, everyone in the Conservative and Labour parties would be queueing up to take credit for it.

that the UK has a GDP far larger than Russia's? If you look at a map it seems amazing, but it's true. Even more amazing is that Canada has a larger GDP than Russia.

Here's the list of countries by their GDP if anyone is interested.
