From senators to the accuser to family members, women of all stripes involved in the sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh have received violent threats in recent days.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) is joining Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) to report that her office is being inundated with angry and threatening calls and messages.
Since the allegations about sexual assault became public, weve been getting a significant number of calls and emails, mostly from other parts of the country, that have been disrespectful and ugly, a Feinstein spokesperson told McClatchy. Calls have included threats of bodily and sexual harm against staff. Emails have come in with threats and highly offensive insults to specific staff members by name.
Collins told a radio station in Maine Wednesday that her office has received pretty ugly voicemails, threats, terrible things said to my staff.

(5,234 posts)the Russians are back at involving themselves in our politics? Funny every side getting the same vitriol.

(47,584 posts)Russian trolls, though I'm sure there are plenty of homegrown trolls involved as well.

(7,113 posts)Apparently there's a crew of MAGAts who phone anybody who does or says anything they don't like, from elected officials to Parkland students.
Perhaps the good news is it appears very few or none of these callers ever actually tried to follow up on their threats.

(748 posts)What kind of threats is *she* getting?
I found this:
https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/407537-collins-my-office-has-received-some-pretty-ugly-voicemails
"Have you seen the emails ... where he talked about Roe v. Wade not being settled law. He [bleeped] lied to you. How [bleeped] naive do you have to be?" the caller in the voicemail said.
So those are threats coming from the left side, obviously. But I wonder if her "ugly" is as bad as what people on the right are getting.

Collins told The Wall Street Journal that she finds "the out-of-state voicemails being left on the answering machines of my state offices" to be "incredibly offensive."
"In one case and we are going to turn this over to the police, but unfortunately, of course, the person didnt leave a name or number but they actually threatened to rape one of my young female staffers," Collins told the Journal.

(8,758 posts)Feinstein and Ford are getting multiple death threats and rape threats. Collins did say one call, out of thousands, was a rape threat they will be turning over to the police. That's it.
What Collins is getting and Feinstein is getting is apples and oranges.

(14,176 posts)If she'd actually publicly pronounce, today, she is NOT voting for Kavanaugh fine. But it seems as though she will, in the end, side with the rapist wannabe's and "incredibly offensive" deplorabes on the other end of the phone, and vote the way they want her to anyways.

(3,538 posts)Vulgar, maybe. Inappropriate, not really (given the real obscenity is this nomination). Definitely not a threat.
The 2nd instance cited (threat to rape) definitely is, and despicable.
