WASHINGTON Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto announced Wednesday that she would not support the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh because of his judicial philosophy and views on abortion rights.
Cortez Masto, D-Nev., said she decided not to support Kavanaugh, a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, after listening to his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
I have determined that his stance on a womans right to choose is extreme and disqualifies him from a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court, Cortez Masto said in a statement.
She said past decisions and dissent by Kavanaugh on the issue led her to believe his confirmation would tip the balance of the Supreme Court to end Roe v. Wade and imperil American womens reproductive freedom.

Heller said Kavanaugh respects precedent, defends the Constitution, and doesnt legislate from the bench.

(16,124 posts)but after the crap that has come out about him, no Democrat should vote for him.
No Republican should either, but I suspect all of them will as they are devoid of morals or ethics.

(402 posts)I have lived in Nevada for half my life and I am now 64 yrs young. Always been a liberal Democrat. I've called Heller and Cortez Masto numerous times and also about this particular issue. Also, I always know Cortez Masto is going to be with me and Heller won't. I cannot WAIT until we vote him out!

Any woman Senator, even if a Republican, who votes to confirm him has no real understanding of what he might do to women's rights.
And no, it should not be newsworthy that a female Democratic Senator is going to vote against his confirmation. That's right up there with Water is Wet!
