Senate Judiciary Committee schedules vote on Kavanaugh nomination

Source: NBC News

WASHINGTON — The Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled a vote for Thursday on the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh.

The vote follows four days of testimony surrounding his nomination last week, including two in which he answered a marathon of questions from senators on the committee.

Democrats, however, will likely delay the vote until next week, which they are allowed to do under committee rules. The nomination is expected to be reported out of committee along party lines. This timeline will likely set up a full Senate confirmation vote on Kavanaugh the week of Sept. 24.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said in an interview with Hugh Hewitt on MSNBC last week that he’ll be confirmed before the high court’s next term next month.

Strict, Party-line vote. None of the Red State D's or Blue State R's are on the Committee.

.

If the GOP thinks that they are going to get their asses handed to them this fall, they haven't seen anything.

The forcing of Kavanaugh will awaken the sleeping giant in our society and further decimate them, for years!

There's still a small window of opportunity to scream at Repug senators and news media to keep that liar out of our court. There may be some Republicans left who are more scared of voters than they are of McCONnell.

Also, don't underestimate the effect of repug attacks on education and their continuing voter suppression tricks. The near future will be a slog to GOTV.

I am tired of people on DU having defeatist attitudes. When did this happen? Come on liberals...why aren't you fighting? Call/write and DO NOT STOP until the fat lady sings. I am really angry with the GOP and it drives me to fight them even harder. I called the senators twice and will keep it up...why don't you JUST DO IT too?!? There are no excuses to give up without a fight. Our Dems senators fought and so should you!

This is a fight we each must take seriously and put 5 min of time to make a call. RESISTANCE WORKS...look what it did with the ACA...we did it before. JUST DO IT!

My wife and I were married the year Roe v Wade was decided by SCOTUS. I thought this was settled sensibly, but it's been eroded ever since rotten Ronnie.

Here's a sobering article from 2003:

One stark indication of the prevalence of illegal abortion was the death toll. In 1930, abortion was listed as the official cause of death for almost 2,700 women—nearly one-fifth (18%) of maternal deaths recorded in that year. The death toll had declined to just under 1,700 by 1940, and to just over 300 by 1950 (most likely because of the introduction of antibiotics in the 1940s, which permitted more effective treatment of the infections that frequently developed after illegal abortion). By 1965, the number of deaths due to illegal abortion had fallen to just under 200, but illegal abortion still accounted for 17% of all deaths attributed to pregnancy and childbirth that year. And these are just the number that were officially reported; the actual number was likely much higher.

when I wrote the reply. I didn't read your post as defeatist at all. A post I wrote yesterday got a reply this morning that WAS defeatist and said I should give up and it is already over...that IS a defeatist attitude and it wasn't the only one I have read with those sentiments. I agree with your post, it is accurate and if he does get chosen they definitely have poked the bear. (Tora Tora).

Will be forever targeted and be shamed for what they've done . Those in close races this Nov. will ensure they lose . If he's installed the Senate will be turned over to the Democrats. The KGOP qill be toast.
