President Trump on Wednesday blasted the NFL and Nike after the latter featured free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick as the face of its latest ad campaign, prompting anger from some conservatives.

Trump told The Daily Caller on Tuesday that Nike sent a "terrible message" by using Kaepernick for its 30th anniversary of the "Just Do It" ad campaign.
The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback was the first NFL player to take a knee during the national anthem to protest social injustice, and has remained unsigned for nearly two years.
As numerous other players have continued to protest during the anthem, Trump has ripped the NFL. The president has called on protesting players to be fired, and suggested they don't belong in the country.

Free advertising for Nike? Maybe, but I give them the benefit of the doubt that they paid Colin his full contract for years because they wanted to do the right thing from the beginning.
Now, about those off shore low wage factories...

(1,089 posts)I think there are plenty of folks at Nike who support Kaep. However, it's far from a coincidence IMO that this campaign coincides with the opening of football season. Last year, football literally became a political football, and Dump will latch onto ANYTHING that lets him kick slop on brown people, especially now as the walls are closing in on his dumb ass.
I don't think this is a cynical move on their part, but I do think it was obvious that the campaign would be given a boost by President Shit-for-Brains.
I'd also be curious to see their market demographics. I wonder if, for instance, their customers skew to the left/younger/etc. I don't know that many MAGAts, but those I do would have no reason to own Nikes given that none of them exercise at all. That's obviously anecdotal and perhaps painting with too wide a brush, but I have to think that Nike would be smarter than alienating a big chunk of their customer base.

(65,112 posts). . .NFL profits are still stratospheric, the NYT and WP both saw increases in circulation, particularly on-line and their ad rates went up.
For a person who was supposed to be a business mogul, he sure doesn't know how to interpret cash flow. Of course, that would explain going broke running a casino.
