Trump Calls Access Hollywood Tape 'Illegal,' Claims He Prepped Lawsuit Against NBC After It Leaked
Source: Mediaite
President Donald Trump claimed NBC broke the law by recording his infamous Access Hollywood tape in which he can be heard bragging about groping women without their consent, as he told the Daily Caller today that it was illegal what they did.
-snip-
He went on to call into question the legitimacy of the tape, which was released just weeks before the end of the 2016 presidential race.
Theres even questions about the tape, theres many things going on. Trump said claiming that it was both done in a trailer secretly and illegal.
I had a lawsuit prepared, a lawsuit that was prepared to be filed against NBC because they leaked that tape, he added.I had a lawyer hired to bring a suit right after the election ended, but one problem arose. I won the election.

Trump went on to say that because he won, there were no damages done to him, so he couldn't sue.
He's right that a problem arose when he won the election, though. His presidency is the problem.

(43,281 posts)No damages? That's not a criteria for not filing a lawsuit. Defamation. Harassment. Emotional distress. Reputation.
He's just ducking the truth so he can sue NBC and pull their FCC License in 2019. Losing the midterms will be his motive.

(14,998 posts)The tape must have come up somehow during his day. I wonder if it is a piece of evidence or part of an argument in one of the many lawsuits he is facing, like Summer Zervos.

They should have sued him, not the other way around.

However if he was wearing a microphone, and had just done an interview, it's not as if he was unaware. He should have removed his microphone prior to revealing "dating secrets"...
RockRaven
(14,998 posts)you've had a TV sound crew put a microphone on you, after your TV make-up and hair was done, for an appearance you enthusiastically consented to, would constitute a lack of notification or consent. FWIW, it was my impression is that the Access Hollywood tape was from before the interview, but I could be totally mistaken as I never cared about that detail enough to find out.
Of course, I don't put anything past any judge a) elected by the public, or b) appointed by Trump, but it would be a sight to see.
Rollo
(2,559 posts)So he'll try any trick in the book to make himself look better.
He's doing it more and more these days.
In "Unhinged", he tells Omarosa over the phone that he had no idea she was leaving, "I hate the idea of you leaving" he tells her. And he expects us to believe that nobody on his staff told him that Woodward wanted an interview, after Woodward asked six people to tell Trump he wanted one. Then, when reminded that Jeff Sessions was one of them, it's "Oh, yeah, but he brought it up only very briefly"...
The best liars are the ones who convince themselves that the lies they are telling are true.
Trump has it down to a fine art.
But I figure Mueller will catch Trump in Trump's own web of lies.
It will be fun to watch.

(397 posts)how did US politics become such a mess that with midterms looming, the president thinks it's a good time to revisit a story about his boasting of sexually assaulting women?
Most politicians would want a story that has faded from the media to stay that way
