Dems Disrupt Start Of Kavanaugh Hearing To Protest Last-Minute Document Dump

Source: Talking Points Memo

Chairman Chuck Grassley couldn’t begin his remarks at the start of the Brett Kavanaugh SCOTUS nomination hearings without Senate Judiciary Democrats interrupting to complain about Republicans’ slow-walking of the documents related to his record.

Sen. Kamala Harris was to raise the issue of the roughly 40,000 pages of Kavanaugh documents that were only released Monday night. Sen. Amy Klobuchar jumped in also to complain about the issue.

“If we cannot be recognized, I move to adjourn,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal said, prompting cheers from the public gathered in the back of the room.

Grassley tried, without much success, to get the hearing back on track. “You are out of order, I will proceed,” he said.

Senator Whitehouse was rather incisive. And incredibly impressive. Especially in noting the bias of the "Roberts Five." Who overwhelmingly teamed up to rubber-stamp - what? NINETY PERCENT of cases on which the Chamber of Commerce weighed in. Rubber-stamping in the Chamber's favor, that is.

To pretend these hearings can be conducted in a vacuum, as if tRUmp weren’t the 800 lb. gorilla in the room, is insane.

This.

Delivered in the dark of night to the same people who once complained they could never read the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (aka, Obamacare) and freaked the fuck out because of its length, and how no one had or could read all - 906 pages - of that bill.

and getting the facts on the record for future hearings.

And there will be one. Ginsburg. Not that that matters. With two Trumpers on the Court (not Republicans....Trumpers), it will be totally their way for decades to come.

Everyone trying to get a soundbite that will play well on YouTube that their base will love. Asking the same questions over and over. Giving opening speeches instead of statements. The usual "Code Pink" circus accomplishing nothing.
I know I'm in the minority on DU with hat thinking but its just the same old shit every time, regardless of who is being queried.
But I guess thats how we've got the system set up, and I'm not sure it should be changed especially with who is t the top right now. I just wish, one day, a person appearing would say "I'll gladly answer all your questions, but I'll answer them one time. Not the same question from a dozen different Senators"

Of course we'd do the same thing if it meant a liberal court for the next generation, that's why I find this whose shebang a hypocrisy.

The Dems are government people. They work with the govt rules and such because they believe in them. We've been in their shoes before, and as was pointed out by some Democrats at the hearing, WE provided the documents requested, AND extended the start time of the hearings to give them more time to review documents. Nothing to hide.

So don't say that the Democrats would behave the same. History has shown they would not. (I'll add that generally, Dems are more ethical and rule abiding. Not always and in every way, but generally speaking. That's why they lose so much. Once you see you're dealing with con men and unethical people, you will lose unless you out think them. You can't sit there and play by the rules while they walk all over you. But the Democrats do that repeatedly.)

But camera shots for their minute of fame? You betcha. All politicians do that and need that. Getting elected is 99% being known by the voters.

Example: Notice how Sen. John Kennedy (no relation to THE Kennedys), a Repub Louisiana Trumper Senator, kept interrupting to ask what the rules of the hearing are and to be sarcastic about the Democrats? (Grassley looked a bit irritated...he knew what Kennedy was doing.) Kennedy wanted his few minutes of fame; he's running for Governor soon.

I'm using common sense and it's my belief that if the roles were reversed, we'd push through a judge that would tilt the SC liberal for the next generation.

Your whataboutism equality quid pro quo trolling is equally disgusting.

Conservatives fought a war to maintain slavery. Conservatives tortured and jailed women who wanted to vote. Conservatives perpetuated a legal system that abused African American who were FREE and LEGAL citizens. Conservatives beat and firehosed African Americans who wanted their free and legal rewritten into law. All the civil rights violations of the past century plus have been done by conservatives.

Common sense would say that for the good of the country and the people in it claiming that liberals and conservatives behave the same is lazy and disingenuous. It would not be wrong or bad, as you seem to suggest, if liberals "push through a judge that would tilt the SC liberal for the next generation." It is ALL federal courts that are being tilted.

FUCK conservatives and anyone who attempts to support them.
