Republican senator slams Trump's DOJ attack: US 'not some banana republic'

Source: The Hill

Republican Sen. Ben Sasse (Neb.) rebuked President Trump's latest attack against the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday, warning Trump that the United States "is not some banana republic."

Sasse condemned Trump's tweets Monday afternoon in which the president criticized Attorney General Jeff Sessions for pursuing criminal charges against two GOP congressmen.

“The United States is not some banana republic with a two-tiered system of justice – one for the majority party and one for the minority party," Sasse responded in a statement.

"These two men have been charged with crimes because of evidence, not because of who the President was when the investigations began," he continued. "Instead of commenting on ongoing investigations and prosecutions, the job of the President of the United States is to defend the Constitution and protect the impartial administration of justice."

All third-world despots, Sasse should know, had many civilian enablers - usually from big business or the lobbying groups (i.e. most of today's Republican lawmakers).

My hope is not so much with him or any of the other GOPee "moderates;" but in the voters.

Voters, as a group, can and sometimes do change. These swamp creatures? It would take a miracle.

They like to voice some lukewarm objection (and make sure it gets plenty of press coverage); but you can always count on them reconsidering "after sitting down with Judge Kavanagh."

What's he giving them? BJs?

but they are silent because of party, and they like the campaign money it brings. Sasse is one of them.

The rest are in it up to their eyebrows.

And Sasse here is posturing for the elections, look at US!!! The Republicans, we stand for law and order, I just told you so!!
