DALLAS (AP) — The Latest on a white former police officer in Texas convicted of murder for the on-duty death of an unarmed black teenager (all times local):

3 p.m.

The wife of a former police officer convicted of murder after shooting an unarmed, black teenager quietly sobbed while testifying at her husband's sentencing hearing in Texas.

Llerena said through an interpreter that she's concerned about their 3-year-old son, who is autistic, and the boy's future without his father at home. She asked the jury for leniency.

He claimed the car was backing up at speed attempting to hit officers. His body cam showed the car leaving, driving away from the scene. That lie alone should be enough to preclude lienency.

Unfortunately it probably won't. It's Texas, he's white and the victim is black.

There are times that I'm ashamed to be either white or Texan and those times are coming more and more often.

some one being put in jail or not and for how long, I simply ask myself this question: Would I feel safe with them living next door to me?

This one's a no brainer. No way, not ever.
