Ron DeSantis, the Republican nominee for Florida Governor told Fox News this morning that Florida shouldn't "monkey this up" by electing Democratic nominee Andrew Gillum.

"It's disgusting that Ron DeSantis is launching his general election campaign with racist dog whistles," Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Terrie Rizzo said.

Geoff Burgan, Gillum's campaign spokesman, said the campaign was letting the FDP respond. "DeSantis' comments speak for themselves."

It’s not a compliment. Nobody would ever say a white politician is “articulate.” It is just assumed that he or she is.

But the base of the Democratic Party in Florida is African Americans. If they vote like they did in 08 we can win this race. Some of the Putnam supporters will sit this out or even switch.
