Manafort to Learn If Feds Will Add Third Trial to Deepening Woes
Source: Bloomberg
President Donald Trumps onetime campaign chairman already faces another trial next month on money laundering and obstruction of justice charges. By the end of the day, Manafort is due to learn whether hell face still another date in court: Because his jury in Alexandria, Virginia, failed to return verdicts last week on 10 of the 18 counts against him, federal prosecutors must now declare whether they intend to retry Manafort on those charges.
Whatever the feds decide Wednesday, Manafort, 69, is already likely to do hard time for the guilty counts in Alexandria. The judge in that case, T.S. Ellis III, has a history of tough sentencing. The trial next month is in a venue that could be less friendly than Elliss court.
Preparing for a trial and a retrial would translate into more legal bills for the formerly high-living campaign strategist, who can also now anticipate the prospect of stiff financial penalties for his tax crimes.
Snowballing legal woes like those have historically led many defendants to seek plea deals. Manaforts lawyers reportedly sought such an agreement, unsuccessfully, during the days the Alexandria jury was deliberating.

(3,570 posts)Let the States have him, definitely will not be any Trump pardons on State convictions. And, he really doesn't want to go to a State prison!

(3,570 posts)but I am looking at King Trump. He can pardon for all federal crimes - and you end up with nothing (except a convicted felon). Of course Mueller can talk with him, but it is questionable how honest he might be.
If you get him on State charges - there is no pardon, and you might induce him to sing.
Besides, the coming DC trial will probably get him on some additional federal charges.
The 10 counts where the jury was 11-1, can be given to the State (where applicable) - the long game.
