HAMPTON BAYS, N.Y. (AP) Police say they've arrested a truck driver who threw a metal object at a dump truck protecting President Donald Trump's motorcade during a recent Hamptons visit.
State Police said Friday that 25-year-old Justin Velez faces a felony criminal mischief charge stemming from the Aug. 17 incident on Sunrise Highway in Hampton Bays.
They say more charges could be filed.
Velez, of Brentwood, was issued an appearance ticket for Sept. 26 in Southampton Town Court. Information on his lawyer wasn't immediately available.

(21,664 posts)Or rather, his namesake building - since he had to sell it in '91 to pay off debts from his bad investments.
But in all seriousness, I for one wouldn't be surprised at all.

(160,620 posts)I think it was last year, and I remember wondering if he would do anything which would call immediate attention to himself like that!
Read that the floor which caught fire was a floor built without sprinklers. Here's a quick google grab:
The Trump Tower floor where a man was killed in a blaze didn't have sprinklers a requirement Trump once fought

. . .
Sprinklers are not installed on the Trump Tower floor where a fire broke out on Saturday, and President Donald Trump once fought a New York City law requiring them.
One man was killed and four firefighters received minor injuries after a four-alarm blaze broke out about 5:30 p.m. on the 50th floor of Trump Tower in Manhattan, New York City.
In 1998, after two deadly NYC fires, legislation was proposed to require sprinklers in all residential buildings but Trump lobbied against the bill, the New York Daily News reported.
He later tempered his criticism for the March 1999 bill after learning it was amended to allow buildings built before that year to not have sprinklers unless it was completely renovated, the Daily News reported.

Hadn't learned that the building is only his in name only now! Wow. Very cool. Thanks for the info., sandensea.

(21,664 posts)To my knowledge, that hasn't happened.
I remember visiting the Trump Tower lobby when I was in school around 20 years ago. The new owners were doing some renovations at the time; but the lobby and doorways were certainly starting to show their age.
To say nothing of how cheesy the gilded, early '80s interiors were. Worse than Graceland (Elvis' Memphis mansion), and very dated.
If you'll excuse the analogy, it reminded me of the '74 disaster film The Towering Inferno.

(160,620 posts)Very interesting to know it was so dated 20 years ago. It should be hilarious by now! Do people go into the lobby and double over laughing? OMG.
It doesn't appear he believes you can go wrong with excess.
The song! Will never get it out of my mind! The horrible lip-syncing.
The actors! Spotted Fred Astaire and Paul Newman right away, before it got crazy.
So funny. Thanks.

(21,664 posts)Very formulaic drama; but very well cast.
Bill Holden alone is worth it, if you're still looking for a Sunday night movie.
Have a great evening, Judi.

(160,620 posts)It is neat seeing those names, actually, especially in a film which one hasn't seen yet.
Thanks for the William Holden alert. It has been decades since I've seen him. Cool.
You, as well, sandensea.

It'll be garbage trucks.

(4,787 posts)It's Fifth Avenue, of course, not the Hamptons where this particular incident of national importance happened two weeks ago. In the short term, they had to do something; the trucks were replaced long ago.
It looks like this now. As best as they could do, all things considered.

(160,620 posts)and more than a little bit shabby. He should raise his sights and go about his duties as a president just like the actual presidents before him, and stop obsessing about himself so much.
The barricades do look somewhat better than the dump trucks!

(9,894 posts)dump trucks for years now. And yeah, it's not the best look. In 1996 I was in a New England town that Clinton, Bill was campaigning in a week before the election. I got a first hand look at what goes on, and that was before 9/11. He was appearing in a town square and they had every road into the square blocked off with municipal dump trucks. The whole thing made me nervous because the buildings surrounding the square had a Schoolbook Depository look to them. Also saw Ted Kennedy and John Kerry. Very cool experience.
