UPDATED - Trump: I did not know about Trump Tower meeting

President Trump on Saturday maintained he did NOT know about the 2016 Trump Tower meeting between his campaign officials and a Kremlin-connected lawyer.
Trump has long denied knowing about the meeting during his campaign, but his tweet followed a month of controversy over allegations that his former attorney, Michael Cohen, was claiming Trump had prior knowledge of the meeting.

CNN reported last month that Trump's longtime "fixer" was claiming that the president knew the meeting was taking place during his campaign. The meeting, which took place in June 2016 at Trump Tower, is reportedly a focal point of Robert Mueller's investigation into whether Trump officials colluded with Russians to influence the 2016 election for Trump.
Sources told CNN that Cohen said he was present during a meeting between Trump and his son, Donald Trump, Jr., when they discussed the offer from Russians of dirt on Trump's Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton. Trump then allegedly approved Trump, Jr., and his son-in-law Jared Kushner's decision to meet with the Russian lawyer.

UPDATE:
Trump Cites Lanny Davis, Reasserts He Did NOT Know About Trump Tower Meeting
by Colby Hall | Aug 25th, 2018, 8:27 am
President Donald Trumps cited Lanny Daviss record correction this morning and restated he did NOT know about the infamous Trump Tower meeting that occurred months before the 2016 General Election. The meeting is at the center of the investigation into whether or not the Trump campaign worked with Russian efforts to interfere in the U.S. election as top Trump campaign officials Donald Trump, Jr., Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner all attended a meeting with Russian agents.
Lanny Davis, who has been representing former Trump Organization lawyer Michael Cohen, had previously claimed that his client knew that Trump as aware of the meeting, but has since clarified that Cohen is unaware of Trumps foreknowledge of the meeting. This was the essence of Trumps Saturday morning tweet:

By any objective measure, last week was a disastrous news week for President Trump as his former campaign manager Manafort was found guilty of eight counts of bank and tax fraud, and his former attorney Cohen pled guilty to campaign finance crimes and directly implicated Trump as a co-conspirator. But neither of these items have come from the investigation led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is specifically looking into alleged Russian collusion, an allegation that Trump and his allies have virulently rejected.
If Trump, in fact, knew that his top campaign officials were meeting with Russian agents who had promised dirt on Trumps political foe, Hillary Clinton, that would be a difficult thing for Trump to explain, particularly after denying it for so long. The fact that Trump cited his legal and political foe Mr. Davis suggests Trump is perhaps grasping at any exculpatory straws.

(9,070 posts)...and when he was told about the meeting, approved the meeting, and was on the speaker phone during the meeting...then he forgot that he knew about the meeting!
After all, it was an unimportant meeting about adoption, but ANYONE would have taken a meeting about adoption in order to get dirt on an opponent from the Russians to cheat on the election, but it was NOT a meeting about collusion...because tRump didn't know what he knew.
It was such an UNIMPORTANT meeting that tRump took an hour on Air Force One to dictate a memo about the meeting that he didn't know about and that Hope Hicks said the emails would never see the light of day.

(36,827 posts)A meeting that was evidently important enough for his son, his son-in-law, and his campaign manager to attend, and none of them said one word to him about it despite Trump's presence in the same building at the same time. Keep in mind this is the same guy who keeps repeating "no collusion" after those same people were cold hard busted colluding with Russians.

(4,066 posts)The more he tweets he didn't know/didn't do something, the more it turns out to be the opposite is true. At least, so far that is how it has worked out.
And, by the way, there is only one truth.

(19,204 posts)You lie to the people of this country around 8 times per day. Considering your only interaction with the people is via twitter, and you average about 12 tweets per day, 2/3 of your tweets will contain lies. That's not a very good record, Little Donnie. So take your lying tweet and shove it up your grotesquely bulbous ass.
