Once again, President Trump is making it obvious that the question of which former intelligence officials get to keep their security clearance has little to do with national security, but a lot to do with critiquing him.
Ever since Trump revoked John Brennans clearance and threatened to take it away from Clapper and others, the former DNI chief has been hitting back at the administration and calling it an attempt by the president to hush his critics. However, Clapper did recently acknowledge that Brennans exceptionally-harsh rhetoric against the administration has become an issue in certain ways.
It seems Trump noticed this, seeing as he got on Twitter Tuesday morning and said this:

This comes after Trump tweeted last night that he might take clearance away from Phil Mudd because of the criticism he gets from the former CIA officer-turned-CNN contributor. Oh, and because its obligatory at this point, Trumps also swiping at the fake news again for the umpteenth time.

(32,750 posts)I've read James Clapper's book "Facts and Fears: Hard Truths from a Life in Intelligence" (2018) where he describes his entire career working for nine different Presidents over 50+ years in the field of U.S. Intelligence. When Mr. Clapper retired at the end of 2016 he had reached the highest rank as Director of National Intelligence, having been Obama's senior intelligence adviser for 6-1/2 years. The book is extremely interesting and loaded with facts, dates and personal anecdotes about many of the leaders in American government and politics.
Long story short, Mr. Clapper would have never humbled himself to Trump after knowing what he knows, and I'll leave it at that.
Cheeto, once again you're full of shit.
Mr. James Clapper, well done sir! I salute you!
