Senate Unanimously Passes Resolution Condemning Media Attacks: ‘The Press is Not the Enemy of the People’

by Joe DePaolo | Aug 16th, 2018, 1:51 pm

On a day when hundreds of newspapers around the country have published editorials in defense of the press against attacks from President Donald Trump, the Senate offered a mild — though unanimous — show of support for the Fourth Estate.

The Senate, by unanimous voice vote, passed a non-binding resolution which “affirms the press is not the enemy of the people.

Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI) introduced the resolution on the Senate floor

“We can’t let statements by the president declaring that the press is the enemy of the people go unchallenged,” Schatz said.

14. Freedom of speech protects speech that YOU do not like.

Similarly it protects speech that tRump does not like.

No person, not even you, gets to decide what speech is allowed.

The antidote to lies is the truth. If you try to create a government body to adjudicate falsehoods in the name of free speech then it would at some point turn into Big Brother and his MiniTruth (Ministry of Truth) from 1984.

People who are lied to need to be made to feel like suckers until they stop inhaling the lies.

16. Nonsense. Doesn't matter. It's not a "channel", first & it is legally same as ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC,

It is a broadcaster and a network, as are the others, even if it does stylize itself as "Fox News Channel". They have multiple channels.

A company gets no legal benefits or obligations by calling itself "entertainment" or "news". Fox News is part of Fox Entertainment which is part of 21st Century Fox. Similarly ABC News is part of the American Broadcasting Company which is part of Disney.

Accreditation of reporters is a separate issue handled differently by various venues.

With the "unanimous consent" request, as long as no one objects, then it passes automatically. So many things have been passed by that method over the years.

and are graveling in every 3 days (to halt any recess appointments). So I suppose it was good that no (Russian) flag-waving, Constitution having (for shredding) GOP numbskull didn't show up to object to the unanimous consent request.
