Achille Elementary School has closed down after parents hurled abuse at a 12-year-old transgender student on Facebook.


An Oklahoma school has been temporarily closed after a group of parents hurled abuse at a transgender student on Facebook.

Twelve-year-old “Maddie” (not her real name) has identified as a girl since 2016. She had previously used the staff bathroom, but following renovations she struggled to find it and instead used the girls' facilities.

Through Facebook, the “Achille ISD Parent Group” discussed Maddie using the girls' toilets and quickly degenerated into violence and abuse. According to Think Progress, one member wrote: “This is terrible!! Y’all have great kids and a lil half baked maggot is causing them probs. We feel 4 y’all.”

The comments eventually turned to physical threats. “If he wants to be female make him a female. A good sharp knife will do the job really quick,” someone wrote. “Just tell the kids to kick ass in the bathroom and it won’t want to come back!!!” another person wrote.

When my daughter was in 5th grade in a small parochial school there was a transgender child two years ahead of her. While the child did still use the female bathrooms he wore the male uniforms and went by a masculine version of his given name.

No-one ever complained of threatened the child. It was very refreshingly a complete non-issue.

Keep her safe and included at school. Show her love.
Call a meeting of all school parents and let them know that the school is with her (and use "she" and "her" ) and there is compassion. This place is probably also going to need all teachers to teach love and acceptance to all the students, which will benefit all of them, decreasing bullying.

Last but not least, get cyber-security on the case and nail the poster and every commentor with arrests for intent to cause bodily harm, terrorist threats, and so on, as well as name every one of them publicly.
