Uproar as politician praises white Australia policy, urges Muslim ban

SYDNEY – An Australian politician was widely condemned Wednesday after demanding “a final solution” to immigration and calling for a return to the white Australia policy which favors “European Christians.”

Queensland Sen. Fraser Anning stunned lawmakers when he invoked during his maiden speech the infamous Nazi phrase used under Adolf Hitler in reference to annihilating Jewish people from Europe.

He also sparked widespread opposition by calling for a ban on Muslim migrants and defending the race-based white Australia immigration policy which was in place for seven decades from 1901.

“We as a nation are entitled to insist that those who are allowed to come here predominantly reflect the historic European-Christian composition of Australian society,” Anning, formerly of the populist One Nation Party and now with the Katter Australian Party, told the upper house Senate late Tuesday

“Those who come here need to assimilate and integrate.”

5. +1, the whole concept of "assimilation" is pretty silly, it opens up room for many issues

Like we see here in the US with groups like Muslims who we ALSO see demands that they assimilate.

So what happens?

Muslims join the civic society, they form groups, lobbies, etc. or otherwise interact with the political and legal systems in positive ways, the people who demand they "assimilate" respond by saying they are participating in "lawfare jihad". When Muslims talk to the media or tell their narratives, normal parts of being in a democratic society as opposed to being insular or especially calling the media "fake news", the assimilation demand people respond by saying they are just doing 'taqiya' (A woefully misunderstood concept). When Muslims work with adherents of other religions and other groups, we will hear about "stealth jihad" and I've even heard the non-Muslim working with the Muslim being called "weak" or "surrendering" as well.

They say "assimilation", but I hear "Don't be Muslim", which is not feasible.

13. The treatment of Muslims

.. in the US and Europe has a lot of parallels. There's the unfounded fears coupled with unfair demands for assimilation. Media has to be called out to call white nationalist terrorists terrorists, because that is something to actually get worked up over. Yet when a white person shoots up a school or engages in terrorism, the focus is on their mental state. When it's a Muslim the stance is "well, let's assume they are a terrorist and then maaaaaybe look for alternative explanations.. maybe".
