Another wrongful conviction has been tossed involving the ex-Florida police chief Raimundo Atesiano, who ordered officers to frame several Black men in order to improve his areas crime statistics, reports the Miami Herald.
Atesiano, who resigned four years ago, was the Chief of Police for a small suburban village between Miami Shores and North Miami. During his leadership, his officers solved 19 burglary cases, or so everyone believed.
In the latest case, prosecutors dismissed the wrongful burglary conviction of a man who they found was framed, serving five years in prison and then was deported back to his native country, Haiti.
It is this offices position that the charges brought against Clarens Desrouleaux
cannot be substantiated and require that the judgment and sentence be vacated, Miami-Dade Assistant State Attorney Justin Funck wrote in a final memo on the case.

Police chief told cops to randomly arrest black people to boost crime stats: probe
By Joshua Rhett Miller July 13, 2018 | 12:56pm
A former police chief in Florida allegedly pressured some officers to frame anybody black for unrelated crimes so the department could boast perfect crime stats, according to an internal probe of the small-town department.
Records obtained by the Miami Herald indicate that high-ranking officers in the Biscayne Park Police Department pressured some cops to make unwarranted arrests of random black people in order to better the departments crime stats, one cop told an outside investigator in 2014.
If they have burglaries that are open cases that are not solved yet, if you see anybody black walking through our streets and they have somewhat of a record, arrest them so we can pin them for all the burglaries, Officer Anthony De La Torre said he was told. They were basically doing this to have a 100% clearance rate for the city.
Another of the officers, Omar Martinez, told investigators in a statement that he wouldnt carry out those illegal and unethical orders.

(38,427 posts)His arrogance and attitude of total superiority matches Trump. He had numbers of people arrested to increase the statistics of the Biscayne Park Police Department. But furthermore, he was absolutely sure that he could get away with those orders and not have anyone question them on any level. ...
I read that two of the cops who did the arrests at Atesiano's orders, have pleaded guilty for false arrests and are now cooperating with federal authorities in an attempt to convict and jail the former police chief..In a moment a link to that story about the 2 that are cooperating with federal authorities.

(38,427 posts)This story is dated August 3..
The purpose of the cooperation is to lessen their sentences, as you will read at the link, and also to have testimony against Police Chief Raimundo Atesiano...Read the entire story at the link below, and it looks like the testimony of those two cops against Atesiano could result in Atesiano being put away for a long time.
Hit this link to read the Aug 3 story..It is an incredible story of corruption at the top of a police force of a small town of 3000 in Florida. It looks like Atesiano will be on trail for ordering arrests of innocent individuals. His lawyer says he did not give such orders. Atesiano's trial will be something. Will the jury believe the convicted cops, or the chief of police who we are told did not order such arrests. . Of course Atesiano claims through his that the cops are lying to get lesser sentences..read the story at the link...if you can stomach it..
I looked around for any date of the trial of the Police Chief Raimundo Atesiano, but that has not been determined. This event happened 10 days ago, and federal attorneys are putting as much pressure on the former police chief as possible.. Interesting story, we will see the outcome at a later date. I sure hope the former police chief gets some long jail time.

(160,540 posts)and I don't even live in Florida. He did a great job with the information.
Florida has some goddawful police, and it's been that way for such a long time. Horrible politics, as well.
Thanks for sharing this material. It really says a lot which needs to be known.

outrageous.

(38,427 posts)The jury will decide if this guy goes to prison. Further, it will be an ugly trial because the two cops testifying against the police chief have committed crimes and have pleaded "guilty to those crimes..
..The police chief will say the only reason they are testifying like this, is to get lesser sentences. The chief will say he never ordered such orders....So the whole trial will be about lying and cops lying and doing illegal sh*t. Who is telling the truth, and who is lying? And who knows what the end of the trial will be ? It is in the future..Looks like a certain way, and it could turn out a totally different way..

(18,124 posts)said specifically, "anybody black with somewhat of a record". I read, traffic ticket, any misdemeanour was the criteria also. SAD. Still, the black male has to suffer because we are so 'visible'. Can't hide from racists.👴🏽
